Re: Happy Birthday El Chivo & eric65
thanks guys, I got up early to hit the range for a "free shoot" which they offer on your birthday. Best part is now I'm 55 and I qualify for $5.50 reduced rate on Tuesdays, also known as "Geezer Day".
My main intent was to shoot my 336 in 35 Rem, and try some long range dinging. My gun and load was doing 3" at 100 yards with the scope no problem. I removed the scope and zeroed the tang sight in at about 18 yards. I figured zeroing this close would get me close at 200. After kicking up some dust at 200, I gave it a little more elevation and then ding, ding, ding, three in a row.
During this, a guy came up with a levergun and took the table next to mine. He had his dad's 1958 Marlin 336 in 35 Remington. He doesn't reload, and was nice enough to give me all his brass. He wants to take up the levergun and hunt with it. He may be logging in to this site before long too.
I also got out my 336 in 30-30, to double check its accuracy with a reduced load, and it was pretty abysmal. I think I'll go ahead and send it to Jes and ream it a new one.
Stopped at the reloading store and things might be looking up; they received 400 lbs of powder on Thursday, and still had some stock left on Sunday. I bought a bottle of Trail Boss to try with some lead bullets that are not proving accurate with my regular powder. That way I won't have to use my dwindling stock of 4227 with those bullets.
Anyway, some free brass and forward progress with my shooting goals, gotta love it.
