The forge is done. Pics
The only improvement will be to switch out the "hobby" torch for a more industrial one hooked to a least a 20lb tank. Although we did fire the forge which took 72 min and heat up a 5/8 rod on a 1/3 of a 1lb tank.

I like it. Simple but effective.

Anything really. We built it to temper our knives, but have many plans for it. Right now we are going to make some tongs.FatJackDurham wrote:What are you forging? Knives?

Looks to be ideal for spear and arrow points...

I see you are using Plaster of Paris for refractory. It must be nice and light. I used cement covered with a half inch of fireclay for mine, and it weighs a ton.
I have always wanted to build a propane burner for it, but I have used charcoal and a blower till now.

Cement was a option but we just mixed the plaster 50-50 with silica sand.FatJackDurham wrote:I see you are using Plaster of Paris for refractory. It must be nice and light. I used cement covered with a half inch of fireclay for mine, and it weighs a ton.

Next is going to be a brake drum forage.
