Backsight for Rossi M92

Post by KiwiKev »

I have a Rossi 24inch octagonal in 38/357. I think the factory buckhorn backsightt is a bit rough for accurate target shooting. Has anyone changed their back sights for their Rossi? Apart from a tang sight? Is the backlight easily interchanged or does it need some gun smithing?

Cheers guys.

What is backlight? Havent heard the term b4. I had my 20" 357 Puma d+t'ed for a Williams peep sight. The gun is very accurate. I'm still trying to talk myself into a tang sight. A few guys have tangs on their 24" 357's look up Colorado Steve's topics on them, lots of great info. 3leg
30/30 Winchester: Not accurate enough fer varmints, barely adequate for small deer; BUT In a 10" to 14" barrelled pistol; is good for moose/elk to 200 yards; ground squirrels to 300 metres

Sorry guys i had just been on brownells looking at the rear sight with the fibre optics. My tired brain got mixed up. BackSight or Rear sight is what I intended.

Mea culpa!

So how was the marbles bullseye? Does it fit right in. How did it compare to the buckhorn?

My 9 & 10 year old boys have the Marbles Bullseye on their .357 carbines (current Taurus production). I didn't have to do any fitting on the rear sights. I had wanted to get the Steve's Gunz Bolt-Mounted Peep Sights for them (http://store.stevesgunz.com/index.php?m ... ducts_id=5), but they saw the Marble's bullseye and that is what they each chose independently.

The sights work well, and don't look out of place on the rifle. Time will tell how sturdy they are. The kids shoot them really well, and fast. They took the rifles to a machine gun shoot recently and were popping paint cans really fast. My one boy had a little action figure robot thing that a bank had given him the day before and he stood it on top of a paint can about 20 meters out and nailed it with a quick shot off-hand.

I like the sights a lot better than I thought I would.

I recently changed both the front and rear sights with some I got from the Steve Gunz site. I used the front ivory bead sight and the rear sight that looks like the original Winchester buck horn sight. They fit well but haven't had a chance yet to zero it in other than with a laser bore sighter.

See this link and it will answer many of your questions:

In the thread I link to above are through-the-sight photos showing the various sights we've discussed, including the Bullseye.

I tried a couple rear sights in my '92. My eyes went bad during a 4 year lay-off from shooting, started wearing tri-focals, and my first try at shooting was with my .44 Mag. Puma and I couldn't hit anything 'cause I couldn't see enough of the sights at the same time to get any elevation accuracy. I tried the stock sights, full buckhorn sights and "bullseye" rear sights. Finally installed a Williams receiver sight and a taller front sight and now the gun will shoot about where I point it (I'm sure the gun is waaaaay more accurate than I am).
