Visitors from out of Country
My son Brandon has been quite successful in Tae Kwon Do. We sponsored 3 girls from the South Korea olymipic Tae Kwan Do team, and the board-breaking demo show team. They attend Jung-Un University in S. Korea. After they warmed up to us, we were surprised that the two things they wanted to do most were ride four-wheelers and shoot guns! Both were easy to accomodate without leaving the house. We got them on our four-wheelers and they had a blast ripping around a little 3 acres. They were innocently reckless on the four-wheelers but nobody got hurt and they and my boys loved it. They each got a safety lesson with one of them doing most of the translating to make sure it was clear. Then they each shot a round of trap, starting with a single-shot .410 and progressing to a over-under 28 gauge. I knew where they could get some professional instruction and after a while they were breaking them consistently. After that we shot recurve, compound and crossbows. There is no real learning curve on the crossbow used off of a tripod as they all could readily hit 20 and 30 yard bullseyes. After a while, they could do that with the vertical bows too. They were great!

Mrs Willy has a friend who is down here visiting from Canada. She's never shot a gun before, so we're going to fix that with a Marlin 1894 Carbine in 357.

Way to go Joe. Those girls will have some great memories to take home with them.

One of the nurses who used to work for me had a sister who taught at a deaf school in Japan. They would come to the US as a final exam/test/vacation/reward and we would bring them down to my house and the shooting range. These are people who never get to touch real guns. They always had an extremely fun time plus there was no need for extra hearing protectors!

BTW, I showed Y2K this post, and he's mighty jealous that you can shoot shotguns in your backyard!

Re: Visitors from out of Country
These girls are really fun and their board-breaking show with full team of 12 is really amazing. Interestingly, they told me Paintball is very popular now in S. Korea. About shooting in the backyard - this location was a compromise. It's a 23 house U shaped ranch estate outside the city limits. 12 of the houses are law enforcement so it is pretty safe here. 15 of the houses have kids that go to school with the boys. School is a 5 minute drive by car or four-wheeler. Zoning is unrestricted residential/multiple use. We can shoot if our projectile doesn't cross another property w a dwelling on it and if we don't create noise that is annoying to others within 600 feet. We keep the volume of centerfire shooting down to sighting in, short practice or function testing. Pistol and shotgun we self limit to 30- mins at once. We have 88 yards if we stand behind the house but can go to 125 yds from the driveway or side. We keep the four wheelers on our property and that of those who granted blanket permission. It's not ideal but a fair compromise for the needs of all family members. Plus, someone has to cut all this grass! I should see if Hyuna, Youjung and Jooyeon like driving the tractor!

WHOA is that a real smile I see? Great ambassadorship Joe.
Last time I had visitors from Japan they went nuts firing my Daisy model 10 BB gun, and and model 62 Chicom pellet rifle. The freedoms we take for granted sometimes can be more appreciated by these kinds of visits.
PS. Girls who can kick butt are pretty awesome.
