OT - Big Dog

Post by Hobie »

Ok, so it is another OT post but you guys have got to see this if you haven't already done so. Very impressive (and maybe worrisome for the "Terminator" viewers  ) what they can do now. If it was quiet it might be the next thing Cabelas would have in the catalog next to the carts...

Big Dog at Xavier's blog.

Wow that was wild, thanks for sharing! I'm glad I'm not the only one that got the creeps from that video.

I liked the parts where they tried to push it over and it was on ice. Behaved just as my dogs have done in the same situation. Headless though. Scale it up some 10X and you've got those big walker things from Star Wars... Worth taking the time to watch, isn't it?

Don't forget, the ultimate goal is to put weapons platforms on those things.

Now if they could just make them for disabled individuals it would be great to
see a youngster who had his mobility taken away to be able to go for a walk
in the woods with his family.

Creeped me out too, but I showed it to a friend who is a paraplegic and he wants one with a seat, a fuel cell instead of a gasoline engine and a joystick. Seems to think it would be a great way to get back to hunting grouse, pheasant and quail. He may have something there.

Phenomenal! Takes a little to get used to seeing it move. Like stated, some what creepy. But what a tool. If they could power it other than w/a noisy internal combustion engine, it would have some stealth capability. Just think of 10-20 of those things coming after you w/a ma deuce planted squarely on it's back. All sorts of posibilities.

Nice work, but it gives me the Heeby Geevies too. I'm afraid if I saw that walking thru the woods I'd have to throw some lead in that direction. They definitely need to put a head on that thing, if nothing else just to get rid of some of the creep factor.

Great engineering. That thing could have some real use for the military if it were quiet and a little faster. Re-supply without having to deal with too many non-combat personnel, and the supply personnel could stay safe and working. Does it salute?

Nah. Just gotta get the EMP package to within pulse radius. Once the EMP cooks the wiring, it's toast... and I don't think they will be able to harden it and keep it motive.

That thing seems to be a huge leap forward in robotics, especially compared to the humanoid Honda robot and others I've seen recently. The creepy part was watching it recover on the ice and from being shoved exactly like an animal would.

Bizzare. I hope I don't have trouble sleeping tonight. On the other hand, it's not going to be winning any races at the local Greyhoud track anytime soon.

Let me nake it harder. It's supposed to carry 300+lbs.

Now mount twin SAWS on it and a couple of big belt cans.

Coming to an ATF raid near you.

That was way cool. All you need to do is put a head and orange fur on it and it would be the robot dog from the original Battle Star Galactica.

As Hobie said any tool can be used for lots of uses. I can see how this would be great for hauling stuff for dissabled people.
