Re: Vintage Hunting
Usually have an old rifle while hunting.
My first deer was with a Win. 95 SRC in .30-'06. This was back in '96 when I still had hair!
Here's my first boar with my 1886 in .33WCF, he squealed and went about ten paces before he dropped.
Another deer with Grandpa's Springfield Sporter.
Another Boar was taken with this 95 in 35WCF that belonged to my Mom's dad.
I recently bought a Remington 700 in .308 to take along for a back up rifle for fowl weather. It would break my heart if I screwed up one of my classics.

Hey Pitchy that is real nice huntin pic's. Is that the Matchlock Ya made.....Dusty
Re: Vintage Hunting
I hunt with a lot of old guns, though I don't shoot a lot of game with them. But then I don't shoot a lot of game with the new ones either.
Last deer I shot was with one of them modern semi automatics.

Re: Vintage Hunting
.
One of the attractions of leverguns & peep sights, besides nostalgia, was to make it somewhat harder for me than placing crosshairs on some unsuspecting critter a few football fields away.
IMHO, It puts the "hunt" back into "hunting", instead of just going on "shooting" something.

Re: Vintage Hunting
Dig the matchlock . Took the blunderbuss out once last year for turkey, but didn't see any. May hunt deer with the 86 SRC this year, then again, by then, I might be into something else.Pitchy wrote:yepper, thanks Dusty.Dusty Texian wrote:Hey Pitchy that is real nice huntin pic's. Great picture Dusty, thanks for sharing. Love the curious cattle in the background getting into the photo.
Here's an oldie from '98 on Maui, me, my son, my Marlin, and my 300 pound boar.

Good pic's guys. Thanks for sharing.
Re: Vintage Hunting
Here's another Model 8 pic: me about a few years back. My grandpa sold a Savage 99 in 25-35 to get a new Model 8 in .35 Rem. I usually take it out at least once a year when the country's not too open.
