Agreed. Very cool. A genuine trip hammer with a spring assist. Very handy for tooling and maybe die work as well. Is there a foot operated idler to snug the belt and start the drive?

Holy cats, Pitch, I love your power hammer. Have you backed off on the steam temporarily, or did the pond fleet just get too big?
I see you managed to capture one of the hostiles' Appaloosas ... Nez Perce?
is that a piece of shafting? where did you find that?
I am looking for an anvil but not finding anything affordable. someone said you can weld a piece of tool steel onto a chicom anvil, still looking at that.
Like the trip hammer. Saw a pict of an old water powered one, really massive, kind of thing you could flatten anvils on....
Good looking tool and nice forge setup. I like your whirlygig blower too. Nice

Thanks guys.
Gobbler, no clutch just plug it in and unplug it at the moment.
Grizz, a guy gave me that chunk of shaft years ago and it finaly found a use.

Very slick makes me want to pound some steel unfortunately no place for a forge right now.
A power hammer like that sure makes quick work. It would take me multiple heats to get to square like that by hand.

Thanks gents.
I`m thinking about moving all the blacksmith stuff out in the yard somewhere and putting a roof over it as there getting to be very little room in the car port for the car.

Moved the whole setup outside to make room in the car port for the car
May build a roof over it later.

Grizz wrote:very very fine. wouldn't it be nice to have a water wheel turning an overhead shaft? Or a donkey engine. Looks like it would fit right in.
A water wheel, the best full time never failing power source imo.
Would love to live on a creek big enough for one.
A old double flywheel engine would be nice for now but i don`t have one at the time.

I've seen many a forge set up with no more than a shed roof to keep big rain off and provide shade. Shade being the most important thing you need. If you intend to leave everything outside like that a simple coat of oil on everything is all that is required. That shade tree there will make a fine spot for the anvil.

We`re thinking about a simple lean2 type building, we`ll saw out some boards 1/2 inch thick and over lap them and treat them.

I like that. How did you put the lines on the blade?
Pitchy; Your a trip, I miss watching you demonstrate your latest project. I don't know why something so simple can make me chuckle so much.

Sawed out some oak beams for the corner posts for the roof over the forge.
Saw doesn`t care for oak much and had to fiddle fanny burp around with the second log trying to get it situated.

Very good. I'm looking forward to seeing it in person. What roof material have you chosen? Metal? What direction does the front face?
Here's a link to an event we had here at the Gobbler Forge last month.
Cool vid pard, i`m going to put pine boards on the roof and over lap them then treat with some Thompsons.
The front is facing you in the picture.

An old joke is that the sign is for the deaf folks. The smell of the forge, mmmmmmm, and the ring of the hammer on the anvil lets everyone know where the Blacksmith Shop is.
