For the 5th time... I QUIT!

Post by Griff »

Been sick for the past week... er, 6 days. Coughin', hackin' and sneezin'... runny nose, etc... slight fever and add to that the phlegm runnin' down the throat... generally, feelin' like a relapse of whatever flu I had back at the beginning of the month. Combine all that with the bad habit of chewin' tobacco...

So, if I have to remove something... why not make it the tobacco. I've quit several times before... but have always started back as the fatigue of driving long hours have been demanded. Now... without the pressure of that military run, my drivin' time is mine to determine... Quittin' never seemed so opportune. Two days down... twelve more to go... Any habit can be broken in 14 days!

Any habit can be broken in 14 days?
Took me seven years with my first wife & five with my worst wife to quit 'em.
If you can break your habit that quick, I'm impressed. :)
Best of luck.

You can do it.
Back in the 80's while I was still OTR driving I quit smoking. My trick was sunflower seeds. The only problem with that is it cost me a truck. The hull blowing back had built up in the nooks and crannies so bad it was easier to just buy a new one.

I hope you're feeling better soon, Griff. Sounds nasty!

Here are a couple of old home remedys you might try:

Two table spoons of honey
two table spoons of lemon/lime juice
2-3 oz of whiskey
warm in microwave 20-30 seconds

two tablespoons of brown sugar
one tablespoon of cinnamon
1 oz of apple cider
2 oz of 100% apple juice
3-4 oz of whiskey
mix in saucepan over medium heat to reduce contents, sip while warm.

Good luck with the tobacco, I quit myself a few years back. Remember, it's mind over matter.

5th time, 20th time, 68th time, doesn't matter, just keep on quitting until you get it right. Your body will thank you.

Griff,
If you give up chewing, you might as well go live under a rock. Skoal is the only vice I have left and life is too short to live like a Catholic priest. It really depends on how much you chew.............everything in moderation.

My dad used to get on me something terrible for chewing tobacco. He used to say to me, "'Ya know Jack, my Uncle Charlie died from a heart attack and he also had the beginnings of mouth cancer from chewing Copenhagen, you better give that stuff up!, and you also know he was the one son (out of 7 brothers and sisters) who died the earliest."

Well, my Dad's Uncle Charlie lived to 88.

Don't know how much you chew, but I go through a tin every 4 days and I know guys who go through 2 tins a day.

Don't worry 'bout it. (Philly Italian slang :D ) The way this world is going, there ain't gonna be much of anything left in the next 20 years. Enjoy what you have left.---------Sixgun

I started smoking at age fifteen and smoked for 50 years.Six years ago in May with the help of Chantix I quit.I haven't any desire for a cigarette today. In fact they STINK!
If you want to quit bad enough you will do it.I recommend it.You will be amazed when you get your sense of smell back.
I am rooting for you.You can do it!

Well, I don't like being the "bringer of doom" here, but mouth cancer is really a bad one. I had throat cancer just 2 years ago and met several cancer patients while I was in treatment. Mouth cancer seemed to be the worse for painful, difficult recovery. My cancer is gone now thanks to a living, loving God and some excellent physicians (they incinerated that stuff with radiation!). But hang in there, nothing but good can come from quitting. Prayer works...
