Ballistics/Reloading Software

Post by AJMD429 »

Since crashing my Windows-7 computer and finding RCBS-dot-load may not run on it (still checking), I found a couple old notes I'd made about other such software I'd looked at and liked.

What ones do you guys use and like/dislike?

(Of course any firsthand knowledge that one works on Windows-8 would be cool, too...)

I found this one a ways back and it looked good - http://www.dexadine.com/aboutus.html - plus it does say it runs under Windows-8.

I downloaded "Shoot!" a couple years ago and didn't like it for some reason - http://www.ballistics-software.com/ but it may have improved or maybe it just didn't run on the desktop I had back then very well.

I still use pen and paper for 'reloading data' so mostly just want software for "what-if" calculations and good graphics and outputs I can take to the range. I do like the idea of back-calculating a ballistic-coefficient from 100 yard and muzzle velocities, but doubt I'd really use it vs. just actually shooting at a longer range and adjusting sights accordingly.

I have cycled through about everything out there at one time or the other but settled on TMT's (Tom Myers) Precision Ballistics and Records software now for the last decade. It has the best target analysis features I've found. It is modular in form, you can buy what suits you but I have and use it all.

I've been saving up for Load from a Disk. I just checked the web site and it is $65 where it always has been around $150.

For Android users, Colin has completed all the pistol loads and has added most of the additional rifle loads Leverguns folk requested. He will soon meet with me to review all this progress and to see what to add next. :D
