357 downs another.

Post by Nath »

I was out collecting woodpigeon with the s200 airgun last Sunday when on dark I noticed this vixen hanging around some lambs!

I went back the next night and hung around occasionaly calling but it turned out she was wise to the call and on dark I noticed her going away only to stop in the distance to listen to a squeal or two and then continue on her way.

I left her alone Tuesday but returned today about 5pm and waited silently.

About 6 she appeared and approached cautiously, I was on a regular route that leads to a bridge they use to cross a river! She hid her self from my position at about 100yds in a ditch but the lambs were betraying her! She waited for half an hour to make sure all was well and then got out the ditch and made straight for me!

At 40yards she stopped possibly sensing my movement. The long levergun sights held on her chest untill the trigger dropped the hammer and the FMJ FP raked front to back,,,,instant and clean the job was done.

Image

In the photo you can see how the slug just grazed her left top lip!

Nice job, I'm glad that .357 is working out.. :D

An old boy in his eighties who lives down the road from me just killed a dog fox that was after his chickens, he tried chasing it off but it returned and got a charge of shot from the old boys S/B 12 bore...

BTW Nath I nailed a Magpie at 35yds with one of those .410 Winchester 3" #6 you sent me, dead right there...

Nice job Nath!

I've heard about "Texas Heart Shots" before (and I took one on a bobcat once)...

...guess that was an "English Heart Shot", which is done in reverse, from front-to-back! It sure worked well though!

Cheers!

Nath, I sure wish you were here at my house. I've lost 8 chickens in the last week. I only have 4 left.

Very well done Nath. If you and Gamekeeper don't stop, the two of you just might rid England of 4 legged varmints. From here, it seems as if you are giving it a good try. :D

That looks to be a good sized fox. Nice hunt and a fine looking rifle.

Anywhere from a dozen lb to about 23lb.

The one in the photo is average, she is being held slightly closer to the camera!

I don't skin them no. I do trade them kinda'.
My reputation gets me access to alot of hunting land. Private too!

Thats how I get access to pheasants and rabbit shooting amongst other.

RustyJr
I use all manner of calls, one is two flats of plastic with elastic betwixt, dog squeeky toy reeds, polystirene wetted on a small mirror, some commercial ones but the one that does best is sucking my palm by the corner of my mouth! Many have fallen to that.
But miss and they don't forget!
I have favoured stands on `runs`. Bit like a trap, once it catches others follow, well fox's follow others on `runs`. Just have to wait untill one leaves a calling card  .

Nice going Nath. This is my first post on this site! Nice .357 Mag rifles to! Both the rifle and the fox are really nice. We have a Red Fox living by our house and we see it mousing in the grown over field below our place. When our Cairn Terrier sees him he goes bonkers. Our Golden Retriever just watches and cries. Both our boys are in their fenced in yard so the fox ignores them.
