Whats RC stand for?

Post by ceb »

Seen a Marlin 336 in a pawn shop today. Nothing fancy or special, serial No. dates it to 1965. It had a RC suffux after the model No. on the barrel. Ive seen W, C etc. but not RC. Rifle looked to be in pretty good shape, just needs a little loving care. Priced at $250. Doubt they would come down any. They have had another 336 that someone camo painted priced at $225 for months. I offered $200, but they turned it down.

Regular Carbine. :D and that is a fair price for a shooter in my book. At least thats what they bring here. Have fun. :)

ceb,

From Brophy's book, some earlier 336Cs (carbines) were marked 336RC, for "regular carbine", to distinguish them from the 336SCs, the sporting carbines with the 2/3 magazines.

In other news, this is my first post, so "Howdy, Y'all"

You offered a pawn shop cash money on a common rifle someone "bubba-smithed" the finish on - only $25 less than what they were asking - and that has sat in their shop for months - and they turned you down??? What's he thinking - there's gold under that spray-paint?

I was eyeballing a 336 real hard the other day at the pawn shop. Had 3-9 scope w/see thru rings to use the iron sight as well.

It was tagged $250, but he would have taken less. Fair price for the gun especially considering the condition.

It was gone the following week.

Thank you gentlemen, I should've been able to figure that out.

Welcome Nueces (How do you pronounce that) thanks for the info, stick around, somebody will pour you a cup directly! :)

Ysabel Kid, I guess they just have too much in the camo rifle. I gotten some good buys in there before, but they ain't budged on this rifle.

I guess I'll buy the '65, I'll shoot it along side my Winnie 94, that way next time somebody asks which is better Marlin or Winchester I'll be able to te...................

[I guess they just have too much in the camo rifle.]

IMHO, pawnbrokers NEVER have too much in anything, since it's against their religion !

The onlyest way, I can see, is that it musta been either his or his BIL's personal rifle.

Thanks to all for the welcomes, glad to be here.

Nueces is pronounced like new-ays'-es. It's the name of a south Texas river that roughly parallels the Rio Grande near the coast and used to be the border with Old Mexico. The 'Nueces Strip', that land between the two rivers, was some of the last lawless country in the state. Some really cool old west history there.
