Possible missing screw

Post by don1911 »

My Rossi 357 levergun seems to be missing a screw. I took it to a very experienced parts store. He said no screw goes there and that owners manual is wrong. He show me how an older winchester has no screw there and explained it is a hole to remove a pin. The owners manual say there is a screw there. Would someone mind looking at this drawing and compare it to your Rossi rifle? http://www.rossiusa.com/pdf/rossi_manual_M92.pdf
It is on page 18. The screw is on right side of receiver. # 49 which is opposite of # 65. Does your rifle have a screw there or is it just a hole?

Thanks again.

Yes, the drawing is wrong.

The guide screw hole is just above the loading gate (spring cover is Winchester's nomenclature), and the screw for the carrier is the lower one that has no line drawn to it. The spring cover screw is the rearward one, in a direct line with the gate.

#43 and #49 screws' lines point to the wrong holes in the schematic.
Kind regards,

The screw goes in the OTHER hole, in the LH receiver sidewall, directly opposite the small driftpin access hole.

The large-headed screw is the "Bolt Pin Stop Screw", since it blocks the pin that connects lever & bolt from working it's way out the LH side of the receiver (that RH hole's too small for the pin).

In use, the Stop screw is removed, the bolt opened enough to align the lever's connecting pin with both holes, and the bolt/lever pin driven/drifted out to the LH side, through the small hole in the RH side. to separate the lever, etc from the bolt.

You aren't the 1st to wonder about that hole. Especially when you get your rifle back from 'smith., and couldn't remember what it looked like before hand.
30/30 Winchester: Not accurate enough fer varmints, barely adequate for small deer; BUT In a 10" to 14" barrelled pistol; is good for moose/elk to 200 yards; ground squirrels to 300 metres

250 Savage... its what the 223 wishes it could be...!
