Still 23 of those VEPRs available for order. Amazing really, and it makes me wonder if the craze is running its course. I've started to see AKs in the stores here in Tucson again this week. No ARs!

Being a custom stock guy I like the look of those, but they are low on the priority list; although that's not a bad price in today's market. I never got into the commie guns, but they now have a strong following. If I do get an AK, the Super VEPR in 308 would be a strong candidate as I could always make something nice for it.

I think I need an MAS 49/56 in 308 for the next purchase. Which... Is another ugly one that I wouldn't mind prettying up a bit.

Take Care,

Tony

Do you have an FN 49? Money better spent in my view.

If I had spare FRNs, and since PSL's are unobtanium, I'd be all over a VEPR in 7.62x54R.

Too bad the mags are so pricy and only available in 10rd versions...

As far as the rifle goes I'm sure your right, but I've had a few ask about custom pistol grip stocks for the MAS and no one for a FN 49; those that have FN 49s don't want to change them. I think that the MAS has quite a bit of untapped potential. In the long run I'd love to have an FN49 as well as a Super VEPR, and so on...!

Didn't Valmet used to make an AK variant that was "sporterized"? Seems they had pretty good wood, and a better trigger, but the guts were pure AK. I can't say they were "pretty", as AK's are just to utilitarian in looks to ever be pretty.

This is what I thought you meant by lipstick on an AK

I don't know about the 7.62x54 models, but there are 20 round mags for the .308 models. I have one but haven't tested it yet. Made by C Products if I recall...

Valmets are the gold standard when it comes to Kalashnikovs. I'd love to have one but they've become ridiculously expensive, and that was before the insanity! I'd dearly love to have a Dragunov also, but ditto.
