2012 White tail
http://share.shutterfly.com/action/welc ... WrJk5ctXtg
Enjoy some pictures of my 2012 White tail, here the story short...
With winds 50 mph and gusting I seen this nice buck tending a doe in a field while I stood near a hay stack trying to stay out of that wind. Temptation got the better of me... been watching this buck for the past 4 years and hot and heavy the past 4 weeks...turned out it was about 80 yards further than I thought... anyway... I shot the first time, he ran around in a circle, so tried another one and he ran around in another circle, so then I was thinking I was missing, that load was 117 gr. hornaday round nose, so than I slipped in 117 gr. partition loaded with Hodgdon CFE 223, aimed on his rump and pulled the trigger, hit him in the flank and came out by the front shoulder.
He ran around in another circle and layed down.... that was it.
I walked across the field to him and clearly seen I had shot one through a horn? and one through the mouth? Good grief..... the wind was really blowing the round nose, If it would not have been for that doe after the first shot he would have been gone.
The wind was blowing hard and he could not figure out where I was and what was happening.
I got him skinned and hung him in a ranchers cooler til I had him tested for CWD.
I guess its a good thing I took this buck since he tested positive for CWD! makes a person sick.. alot of waste here... but think of the death he had looking at him.... this was at least quick and easy compared to what was ahead.
Maybe horn hunting is worth it when you have an area full of CWD and Blue tongue.
OLLOGGER Oh the gun is a 25-35 mfg in 1917

Hey, outstanding! Sorry about the CWD. My 25-35 is from 1916 and is a SRC. I love it. Second center fire rifle I ever owned.

Re: 2012 White tail
Brad,
THATS a nice buck! I was gettin' a little excited reading the story (117 gr.) and knew it was the 25-35. I see the bullet held together pretty good.
I always thought that if an animal had CWD, you had to stay away from the brain and spinal cord but the rest of the meat was fine. At least thats what they are telling us here in Pa.
'Ya know, you could have thrown in a pic or two of Tami in there.

Re: 2012 White tail
Thanks guys
heres my deal on cwd, had 3 tested & 2 were positive, lab called me 2 years ago on a positive deer
and said they suggest not to eat it, I asked what do you know that I dont know?
I got the same answer, we suggest you take it to the landfill, Ive shot 16 deer in this area & 8 Elk
have I had game with cwd? Im real sure of that. I will test from now on & if its positive
it will go to the landfill, I really hate that, but what would you do after reading this?
Makes me want to give up hunting Deer, Ive already give up on Elk, some of that is age related
ill admit, Antelope is cwd free so I have a choise there
thanks again Ollogger
sorry no pix of Miss Boots

What a beauty. Fine looking buck. You saved him some real pain and suffering what with the CWD.

Glad you got that buck. Those cold windy days can throw a fellow off a bit.

I just joined the forum to learn more about getting the most out of my 25-35. I've been thinking about using a different bullet that will carry energy a bit further downrange. I was thinking that the partition was too tough of bullet for deer at 25-35 velocities. I was starting to think about trying the 115 ballistic tip. My idea was to put the spitzer in the chamber and have follow up shots with the RN.
Is there a thread on the forum about your loads for the gun? Btw: what a nice looking gun.

Re: 2012 White tail
js I got the load off of Hodgons site on the puter, CFE shot better than LVR, I ended up one gr. below max. with the Hornady & the Nosler, And the partition I think is pretty stout for the 25-35
that said the deer died fast when I finally hit him good (dang wind)
Ive been thinking bout trying the 100 gr. Hornady Spitzer, Im sure that would be worth a try
By the way Welcome & thanks
