Snagged a 64- Date of Manufacture?

Post by Aggiecubpilot »

A certain Winchester 64 followed me home yesterday and I was hoping someone could help me with a manufacture date. The best I can come up with online is 1942. It's a 120XXXX range gun.

Something about pulling the floorplate out of the 94 action made me prefer the '92 and '86 more, but the feel of this rifle is superior. I think this one will be a shooter. Anybody load cast with SR 4759 in the 30 WCF?

Thanks to all!

Lyman 31141 (sized .311) 175 grain FPGC, CCI 200, 18 grains 4759 is my old standby. Just under 1800 fps out of my 24" bbl Marlin.

If you have it apart look at the bottom of the barrel for a 2-digit date stamp.

AFAIK, Winchester (for one gunmaker) wasn't making/assembling commercial firearms for the duration of WWII, 1941-1945.

I would think your Model 64 is (barely) pre-war.
