Resident goose hunting anyone??
I survived the lottery for a stand at the local reservoir, (lake Redmain) in John Kaine Park here in York Pa. I can take three people with me for the morning hunt on Sept 25. this is a quick hunt, half hour before sunrise to 11 am. thats it, but you can't be the price. Myself and Alnitak will be there. Any locals want to join us in the next two spots??? Casastahle? JasonB? CCAsh? Fordwannabe? Sixgun? anyone?

Re: Resident goose hunting anyone??
I would do it here in VA as the res season opens tommorrow with the dove season !
However .....................................,
I don't wanna pay for the "Nice Shot" to reload in my 10 gauge 2 7/8" gun . That stuff's like $15 a pound !
Would be kinda fun to hammer a pair with my grandfathers old 10 gauge though

Re: Resident goose hunting anyone??
I reload for my 10 bore and I think it's well worth the expense to shoot my nearly 100 year old English 10 bore side by side. Good luck to you. Our swain opens , like it does throughout the country tomorrow but the blind on the lake only had 10 days of hunting available. I got the last day in the am. Still happy with that. Limit is 8 per person

Awsome offer Mike and thanks so much for thinking of me.
If I can get the day off I'm in.
All I need is a federal duck stamp.
Blessings,
Mike

Yeah, I have 4boxes loaded for dove season opening weekend too. I also have several loaded for pheasant, some for turkey, and some for ducks in addition to the goose loads. I will take my 12 bore and 10 bore afield over the weekend. Good luck to you

Local Cornfields are full of those "City Geese", but I won't bother with 'em. I have never wasted a shell on them except to chase them out. Just sayin'.

I have never shot a Canada goose but I believe this will soon be changed.

I'll have to leave the Parker girls at home for this hunt
I have two boxes of 12ga. 3" mags BB size steel shot
so that limits me to using my Browning vertical SXS

I load bismuth for my 10 bore. No way it's staying at home.

If you ever want to venture to Long Island I will put you on a 6 goose per day limit any day in Sept. Weekends you may have to shoot between the jet skis and boats but the geese don't mind. Flight path from the baseball fields and golf course right to the salt marsh like clockwork. Just ask PapaBear. A dozen geese are heavy and take up a lot of room in the boat!

BTW - if you sear the breasts in hot oil with Worsterchire, Tabasco and lemon, and then pan cook them with a few bacon strips on top and bottom until medium rare - you will have a hard time telling them from good beef steak, especially with a little BBQ sauce on them! Good luck!

Mr. Johns, if you still have room I'd be interested in going.

You would be welcome homefront. I have two dogs but neither are retrievers. I plan to walk out in waders and retrieve the birds. It's plenty shallow. I may borrow a kayak also. You have a dog?

That's great... thank you!
I do have a dog, a Chesapeake named Tucker. I've killed pheasants over him but no ducks or geese yet.

Re: Resident goose hunting anyone??
Mike, that's great. We can start shooting half hour before sun up on the 25th. Our stand is by the board walk on the south end of lake red man. When I get back from Uganda on the 23rd I will contact everyone hat is going. My brother is coming up the night before. I'm guessing we will need to be in the stand an hour before sun up on Tuesday am. Blessings

Casastahle, home front, Alnitak: Sunrise is 7:02 for shooting purposes on Tuesday morning. Shootinig time is 30 mins before that. Alnitak is staying over so he and I will leave the house at 515. That should get us settled in in time. I was thinking that perhaps we all just meet at my house and head to the spot from here. Casastahle, you have been here before but I am sending you and homefront my address for directions. Will be 54 degrees as a low temp, and 0 percent chance of rain. Looking forward to seeing you Tuesday

Charley,
You were missed and we had you in our prayers this am. We got some shots off, but nothing fell from the sky on our accord. lol. We did manage to go home with a goose each, out of the generosity of some other hunters I met. A great time was had by all.

Re: Resident goose hunting anyone??
You make me wish I was a Pa. local, sounds like so much fun. Always wanted to but never got to try waterfowl hunting, LOVE roast dusk and goose. Closest I got was when I lived in Idaho 30+ years ago, was invited but couldn't afford a non-resident license and stamps.
No waterfowl hunting allowed here since our native goose (nene), and duck (koloa) both endangered and misidentifying a high risk.
Good luck to all waterfowlers here this season.
