1886 reaasembly
I just installed original bolt and lower tang from a vintage 1910 33 rifle in my Miroku EL. I'm having a dickens of a time with the original hammer with fly and the original mainspring. That is one tough spring and I can't hold enough pressure on it to get the bolt through the receiver. Does anyone know the easy way of installing the hammer? Please chime in Mike Hunter.

I have no experience with that action.

Hi Mike,
The first thing to do is back off the main spring screw and the strain screw. If it's still too hard then you will need to make a slave pin to line up the lower tang and hammer in the receiver. Make it small enough to go though from the threaded hole on the right side then chase it out with the hammer screw.

Who said that original 1886 parts won't fit the Miroku? I took it little sweating and holding my tongue just right to get the hammer screw in, but, by golly, it works. I stuck a primed case in the chamber and it popped nicely. Bolt, hammer w/fly, and lower tang with correct flat mainspring. Holy moly, that hammer and spring have some pressure on 'em. Now, all have to do is inlet the buttstock for the block that the spring goes under. Of course, the gun will have to be cleaned of my greasy hands, but all in due time.

Next time I tear this thing down in will be to install an original PG lever and PG buttstock. That'll be a while, though.

Forgot the photo before I put the gun away for until the Miroku stock in inletted for the lower tang. Both stock screws fit, the bolt spacing is the same.

Glad for your success... Just curious.. Why the bolt replacement?

To get the correct one piece firing pin and ejector. Also because I had it and decided to experiment with it. Lower tang and trigger, flat spring and hammer, so why not the bolt? I have too many 1886 parts doing nothing, so a few were put to good use. I also have an original bent lower tang to use at some later date when I find a proper original PG stock with shotgun butt.

Poor choice of title, it's going to change.
