Proudd New Owner of Marlin 336 in 35 Rem

Post by miestro_jerry »

I picked up a Marlin 336 today in 35 Remington. Had it scoped while I was there.

I have a two molds that are appropriate for this rifle, I think. RCBS 357 180gr Silhouette and a Lyman 357 214gr SWC. I am looking for suggestions on other oolits to cast and shoot in fine rifle.

Plus I am looking for brass.

So for the moment, I am the proud Pappa of a new lever gun.

Miestro Jerry,

Glad to hear of your new .35 Rem. Marlin 336!

I got a laugh out of the above responses. YES, we'd love to see pictures of your new lever and I agree with the above, unless our eyes have gone past the point of no return, the factory sights or a tang sight, or lastly a receiver sight would look better on your 336.

At least tell us about what year it was made, the serial number will tell us if you don't know.

I have a 1948 vintage Marlin 336 in .30-30 and I agree it is the SMOOTHEST lever gun that I own BAR NONE!! So hopefully yours is in the same 1940's or 1950's vintage!!

I hope to see pictures soon! I need to learn how to post some pictures on this sight too. Maybe this weekend my kid will tutor me!! Congrats on a fine lever gun!!

Good on yer, Jerry!

Lots to be said for a levergun in 35 Remington.

Let us know how you make out with the lead bullets.

This is a brand new one from the factory. My eyes are suffering some from old age, so scopes are becoming common place for me.

I would try a Tang site, but I would end up back with the scope.

Anyone have any brass to spare?

Congratulations! on the new rifle. I may be way in the cold on this one, but I don't recall anyone posting any pet loads for this caliber. A good friend of mine has an older 336, and just loves it. He swears there's no tracking needed. He shoots factory loads.

Don't know if I got him, but my local Coyote took three rounds in his direction, about 30 minutes ago. Haven't heard a peep since.

Tomorrow morning I will see if I nailed him, if so, pictures will be posted.

Jerry, Congrats on that nice new .35! It sounds like you are planning to roll your own, but you also might want to give a try to the new .35 LE ammo. The velocity listed is about 200fps higher than other commercial brands. Good luck

Way to go Jerry.

Tip on Brass. Gunbroker.com search "once fired 35" See if that suits you.

Mold them, make them and shootem up.

Congratulations on the 35. For years, this has been a caliber in the shadow of the 30-30, but in the eyes of those that have owned them, a hell of a lot better. If you want to shoot cast bullets in this rifle, look no further than the RCBS 200 grain flatnose, gascheck bullet. I don't know how the bullets you mentioned will feed, but the RCBS 200 gr cast bullet works like God created it just for Marlins. Try Accurate XMP 5744 powder for starters. It used to be that gunshops always had a 35 or two lingering around, gathering dust. No more, it seems. The secret is getting out. :)

Jerry,
I second jlchucker, the RCBS 200-FN bullet is top notch! 5744 is a great powder, but I didn't have any, so used RL-7, working up to 27 grs. with hard bullets. Shot great.

For hunting a scope will be much better. I bought another .35 today as well.
