Martini Leverguns?

Post by KCSO »

Well it has a lever in the right spot at least. I had to dig out the old target rifles so I can learn to shoot left handed and the 12 and the 12/15 at least have stocks I can still get down on so they were my first candidates. I forgot how much fun one 22 at a time can be with a truely accurate rifle. The old 12/15 made in 1950 will still shade an inch at 100 yards from the bench and the 12 isn't far behind.

Owned a 12/15 that I loved.....was much more accurate than I. The local 4H Shooting Team was in serious need for good quality rifles for their older children. I see the firearms guru often and he has indicated that it has won several matches in the hands of the older teens.....teaching children to shoot, compete and be safe was worth giving the rifle away.....

Bob Adams has the sights but they will cost yo almost as much as a whole gun. One of mine is D and T for target blocks and the Leatherwood Malcolm 6x sure fits nice. The 17" looks just right on the 12.

Your front sight looks like a Parker-Hale FS22. These inserts for the FS20 will fit if your tube inside diameter is 0.54".

As for the rear aperture sight look out for a BSA No.30, BSA No.8 or a PH No. 7/7A. These come up on Ebay from time to time. Details of these sights are here:

Thanks Bruce, you are correct on the front sight and I want a 7 or 7A (whichever has the multiple aperture, I don't recall offhand) for the rear.

I know he has the sights but I should have been more specific. I need to find the correct rear sights for less than the price of one arm.

I'm not cheap, I'm frugal...

Someday I need to get the .357 Cadet out for pics.

I've never seen inserts like the two on the bottom left. Any idea how they would be used?

Brownells sells a Lee Shaver insert set for the Parker Hale front sight I have two .22 Martini target rifles here in Australia and they are a lot of fun.
Keep an eye out for ebay and you should pick up a rear sight from England or Australia or this in New Mexico

Good. We can be clueless together...

Here's another set of questions. I've been told a SMLE stock set can be adapted to a Cadet or 12, 12/15, etc. My problem is, SMLE is used as a catch all for the Lee-Enfield so I don't know if they mean the SMLE specifically or if a No4 stock set works too.

Anyone know for sure one way or the other? :?

I have not heard that, however an SMLE barrel will fit a Martini Enfield and the forend can be adapted to fit so that you end up with this:

Oh my! :o That is absolutely SUPER COOL! Did the Nepalese ever use/build the M-E? Real ones don't turn up often for less than an arm and a leg and I'd trust a Nepalese before a Khyber Pass...

Wait....could a MH be rebarreled and the extractor replaced to get the same thing? IIRC the MkI M-Es were built on MH frames.......

That can certainly be done. There is some discussion on it here:

Oh boy, I could get in trouble for the thoughts racing through my head. Like I don't have enough projects already!

Now to find out if the Nepalese used the same threads...
