Daughter's Prom (big photos)

Post by KirkD »

Okay, I feel terrible about posting something off topic but I'm just dadgummed proud of my oldest daughter, Sarah. She has just graduated from high school and Thursday was the big Prom. Sarah wanted a good, wholesome Prom evening for her and her friends and it started out with dinner for 31 of her friends in our backyard, with Dad, Mom and siblings doing the serving. Here's a photo ....

Image

Sarah is heading off for a year to Capernwray School in England. When she returns, she is planning to go into a four year nursing program. Here's a couple shots of my oldest princess of whom we are very proud .....

Image

Image

My youngest daughter, Hannah, who is only 16 and not old enough for Prom, was feeling a bit down later in the evening when everyone had left, so she got her horse and went riding. Her horse is a Paint mare, former boss horse of a herd of 16 horses. My daughter, however, is even more strong willed than the mare and has brought that horse along so that it works hard to please her. She is a good rider, preferring to do most of her riding bare back ......

Hannah is working at the local McDonalds, saving up money so she can buy her own motorcycle. Sarah is a waitress at a family restaurant, saving up her money for college. They are both so totally different, but we are proud of them both. Well, that's it for my off topic post. I apologize for doing it, but I'll try and make up for it with a good post later on in the week about shooting with my 38-72 made in 1904.

Kirk,You have a right to be proud. Both of the girls are lovely and seem well grounded. I always look at my children has each being created by God for different purposes having different gifts. One graduated from Yale Grad school and her three brothers all are blue collar workers and seem happy! Happy goes a long ways!
Congrats!

That sure is a pretty horse. And them gals ain't too shabby, either.
It's good you can give them a "safe" activity for prom night, and get so many of them to participate. Most people don't realize the reason kids get into trouble is often because there's nothing better to do. Thanks for posting.

We have been thankful that our girls have a good group of friends who got their heads on straight, and are Christian young people trying to get a good start in life. They come from hard working families, many of them only one or two generations removed from the horse and buggy Old Order Mennonite. The right friends can make a world of difference. Us parents are always ready to do what we can to encourage those sorts of friendships and this event was one way of doing that.

I still thank God on a regular basis for letting us live here. Eighteen years ago, we got it for cheap. Since then, the cost of land has really soared around here. I'd like to sell the place in another 8 years when all the kids have left home and move up North into the bush off the grid.

Your family success encourages me greatly. My angels are 8 and 10 and I'm sneaking up on 60 real fast. They grow up in a drug free home with honest decent parents. It just doesn't seem like enough anymore. Big city influences are rarely family focused.

You sure have two wonderful kids, Dad.

Isn't family a big part of what makes us who we are? Great post Kirk. Those of you up there in Canada will probably understand her better after she learns to speak English than we in the Southern U.S. would. Where I'm at, we speak Texan.
A couple of years ago when Sighthunter went to prom, she went with a group of friends since the boys were scared of her. She took pictures of her targets to school in her phone, and the guys never seemed to have the courage to ask her out.
