I ran across this on eBay. Seller said it was "like a Ka-Bar" and was in "good" shape. Well, I carried one just like it in the Army so I thought it would make a nice knife for one of the boys. Thirty-seven bucks - big whoop. (I may be cheap, but I'm also stingy.) I got it today and "good" shape? Heckfire, the dang thing is NEW, never sharpened!!
I don't "collect", so I took it out and buffed the parkerizing on the blade with a bit of steel wool, oiled it, put an edge on it, adjusted the snap closure a bit (it was loose, I have the mandrel and anvil to fix that) etc. etc. She's a dandy!!
(iPhone pictures. It takes such serviceable photos that I've gotten downright lazy and don't usually even break out a "real" camera anymore...)
A perfect match to the K-Bar, and, I suspect it was made in Olean, NY just like the K-Bars.....I love those knives.....The one I just got from Dixie B. sharpened up like a razor....I'm working on that back blade, too....

I had one marked USN on the base of the blade.. Great steel, and a real work horse of a knife.. don't know where it wandered off to, some years back...

Hi--i grew up in Camillus NY and i had many friends and a few relatives that worked at Camillus Cutlery (1876-2007) and i can assure you that that knife was made by Camuillus Cutlery and made in Camillus, NY, they had many military contracts, just like K-Bar...nice knife, i can tell by the logo that it was made sometime after 1989...i apologize for being such a Camillus homer... :)

I was saddened by the Camillus demise. My first knife was model 51 like the one in the bottom on my picture. I have been looking for others like it after it was stolen.

Camillus was a BIG military producer for sure. Thanks!
I grew up in Jamestwn, NY. My mom sold industrial supplies to Camillus, Case, Ontario Knives, etc. We always got a knife from one or the other at Christmas.
Good find you have there. I got one marked USN when in the Marines.
What chaps my butt is that the Germans and Spaniards still make some fine, traditional style knives while the old standards in America have all gone belly up. What gives?!
I probably over state the matter, but you know what I mean.
BlaineG wrote:My Bad....Now that I think of it, it's CutCo that is in Olean as well as K-Bar. CutCo makes a K-Bar, but it's 180 bucks and I doubt it's any better.
BlaineG...man you are never bad...you're one of the reasons i hang here...really like your input... :)
By the way I have two (2) Western Bird Knives made by Camillus Cutlery and I think I'm going to sell them in the classified section--see attached photos. Camillus Cutlery had three brands in their line-up, they had the Camillus brand, the Western brand, and the CAMCO brand... :)

i was home visiting family right after Camillus Cutlery closed their doors--stood outside by the main entrance, just couldn't believe it... they couldn't compete against the cheap stuff that floods in from asia...plus nobody but us old guys like and still use a pocket knife...oh well... :(
It is really a shame that the old standbys have gone. I still have some NIB Schrade folders from a few days after they went out of business. Still in the boxes.
I have a lot of older US made folders that need some work or for parts..I will get them in groups and post them for sale here, if there is an interest i them. I had a lot of them, then had to do something else and lost interest in them.
Let me see what I still have.
Oh, and that Camillus? You stole it...nice job! Great knife.
