I've seen nicer wood in a fence post. Man that is fantastic wood, I love that kind of beautiful grain.

That's a great looking rifle with exceptional wood. What are the particulars?

Re: It's a lever but , only one shot at a time.
About six or seven years ago, I made my first visit to a Cabellas store about 150 miles from my home. I was awe struck be the gun selections. I loved the gun library. I saw my first Sharps long range buff gun. That was the one thing that stuck in my mind for the next 24 hrs. I hadn't even checked the price. Beyond my budget I figured, but still it smoldered in the grey matter. Morning coffee time, my wife brought up the same gun. That's a treat, when my wife talks guns. ......I called. The price $1,475, the cal. 45-110. What? I said, do you have ammo for that. No, you have to make your own. I still want it and ran back down the next day. They had six Quigley model Pedersoli Sharp replicas and a couple shorter round barreled models. I had them bring out all six. None had the striking grain of this one. Sucked in deep at this point, I bought $500 worth of sights with it.
Now I had to watch the Tom Selig movie the gun was named after. I'm so burried into this long range black powder cartridge thing now it's sick. I found a company called Buffalo Arms, and they could send me loaded smokeless ammo.
Twenty rounds of shooting didn't impress me and I joined a forum dedicated to black powder cartridge shooting. Thanks to those guys, and a few hundred for reloading supplies from Buffalo Arms. I got on with black powder and fantastic long range accuracy.
The gun wieghs 14 lbs and has a 34'' barrel and shoot a 2 7/8'' brass and a 530 gr rn bullet. I load 106 gr on Fg Goex black powder a wad compress about 5/16''. A load recomended by others and it has worked well for me. My son found a used Ped. Quigley in a 45-120 and we compete on our own 600 yrd. range. It's not hard to hit a 24''x 30'' steel plate at that range with those sights. Great fun.
The pic. is a 45 Colt on left and the 45-110 Sharps on right.

There's a fair number of us that hang out here that love the Sharps also!
I've "heard" that those Pedersoli Quigley Sharps use Green Mountain barrels and ARE shooters! That has absolutely the best wood I've ever seen on a Pedersoli.
Oh! And BTW, that'd be Tom Selleck!!!
My Sharps, a .40-90SBN! +1 on only being able to "roll-yer-own"!!! I bought mine as a "Long Range Express", but had the barrel cut to 30" so it would make NRA BPCRS weight... by 2 ozs.! But after shooting it for 3 years in NRA competition... that 90grains of BP kick in the shoulder got to me! Every time I think about rebarreling it to a more shooter friendly caliber... I think... nah, I still wanna go hunting with it! And the new Shiloh's are outta my price range now, for sure!

Would it be silly to admit that I woke up this very morning thinking about what I'd have to do to have my own Sharps?

Nice gun Giff. Who's your helper? Did you carve him yourself?

Nice. And don't feel bad; most guns are only one shot at a time.

All guns are fun, but shooting a pretty gun is more fun!
