RL-15

Post by Wes »

I use a bunch of this powder in other rifles (30-30, 35 Whelen, 22-250, 260, 300 Savage) and was wondering if anyone used it in their 35 Remington? It would be nice to have a decent load with this. I've got quite a little on hand. I went to the Alliant website and all they show is RL-7 which seems like a fast burner for this cartrige.

Wes you might find some data for 4064 and work off of that. That's how I found the Rl15 load I use in the 405.

It's a great powder for the 35 Remington.

With 200 grain bullets you can achieve about the same velocity as Hornady Leveroution factory loads.

Firgive me Wes but do you mind telling me how you find it works in 30/30. I have used it in the past in 308 and liked it so I am just curious about it in the 30/30.
Thanks, Nath.

Nath it works quite well in the 30-30 good accuracy and velocity, with both 150's and 170's, it's also a great choice in the 30-30 ai.
:D It'll also make a 223 set up and pay attention.

It's the best load I had for the 30-30. As Don said it worked for both 150 and 170. My rifle shot Hornady 150's the best. For you 300 Savage guys, it was also the best powder in both of my 99's.

I use 39.0 gr of 4064 with a 200 gr bullet for the 35 Rem. I think that something in that neighborhood will work fine.

Sorry, I don't have a .35 Rem myself; all I can report is the pressure tested results in Lyman's 48th. RL-7 gave excellent fps with jacketed bullets from 180 to 220 gn. It beat out 4064 at all weights. 3031 nudged it out at 180 gn and 4895 did as well at 200 gn. The RL-7 charge weights were considerably less; given the economy, I'd try it if I owned one.
