Marlin Question:
What are the 2 "extra" screws on the left side of a 336/Rossi RioGrande for? They don't hold anything to the inside of the reciever. They don't go all the way through. They are just there and extend into the reciever maybe 1/8 in ...

Re: Marlin Question:
They're on the older marlins, but those of recent mfg all use the scope holes on top...I really like the fact that the older ones used the side mounts though...
Aim low boys! They're riddin' shetlands!
Re: Marlin Question:
I'm thinking a side mounted receiver sight too. I purchased a Williams FP receiver sight for my 39a a few years back and received one of those side mounted sights. Unfortunetly mine needed a top mount

Receiver mounting holes:
The hole above and to the rear is the ejector tab. The above is of a 1894 Marlin, but the relative location is similar on the 336.

Re: Marlin Question:
Nope. These two:
Neither seem to screw into anything except the reciever wall.
You would think the lower one had somthing to do with the lifter, but it doesn't seem to.
My 1895GS has the lower one, but not the upper one...
I've never needed to take my GS all the way apart so I really haven't messed with it or know what it does...

Re: Marlin Question:
The lower one - on the Marlin anyway - is the trigger plate reinforce screw. It was added to the Model 1893 shortly after its introduction when it was found that the trigger plate could flex after repeated cycling and take a set. It was carried through all the iterations of the basic 1893 action (i.e., the 1893/93/1936/36/336).
