Ruger Blackhawk in CA?

Post by El Chivo »

I went to check the price of a Ruger Blackhawk and they said it wasn't on the state of CA's approved list. No way to buy one legally for a CA resident. The Vaquero is ok, however.

I was quite surprised, a single action revolver not being approved.

I also seem to remember that 38 special +P guns are not approved, while .357 magnums are.

Can't wait until my wife retires and we can leave this place. Is the Texas hill country anything like the Santa Ynez Valley? Some of my youth was spent in Odessa and Andrews, TX.

Could be its the Old Model Blackhawk isn't approved, but the New Model is approved.

The following is from Ruger's website:
Note on single-action revolver sales in California: Pursuant to California law, single-action revolvers with at least a five-cartridge capacity, a barrel length of not less than three inches, and an overall length of at least seven and one-half inches are exempt from testing requirements. All currently manufactured Ruger single-action revolvers satisfy these criteria and therefore are exempt from the California requirements. These revolvers may be purchased in California even though they do not appear on the California Roster of Handguns Certified for Sale

The original intent of this nation's governmental structure was that the citizens would be making a list of 'approved firearms' and 'approved ammunition' which the police and military had to obey - NOT the other way around...

"first do no harm" - gun control LAWS lead to far more deaths than 'easy access' ever could.

THANKS Jack, I thought maybe they hadn't paid a fee for that model or something (neither the old or new models were on the list). Good to know I can order that one!

You can buy a Blackhawk in Ca. The Gun Shop in Lancaster had one in 45 Colt and 45 ACP last time I was there.

I hope you're not including me in that! I'd move to the State of Jefferson in a heartbeat if those people ever git off their backsides and finish the job!!! BTW, I'm in the SF bay area.
