Re: I thought I was done collecting............
I went for 'quantity' on the leverguns, and am now distilling them down to the bare-essence ones I consider 'essential'.
Now I need to go back and do that with bolt-action guns.
Never liked the semiautos enough to get all that serious there, but once in a while I do yearn for the old bolt-guns.

Hmmmm if I had to step out on a limb and pick a couple not inexpensive items I'd like to have , a couple Parkers come to mind !
GH grade damascus barreled 10 gauge and 8 gauge as well as a fluid steel VHE or better 28 gauge
I suspect I can pick up the three (depending on the grade of the 28) of those in good shape for about $35,000

I hear that !
I was at almost 100 Marlin's a couple years ago and got it down to maybe 20 or so !
Now I'm back up to about 26 or so and I'm thinking i may sell off some of the duplicates and all of the second model 444's !
That would be about a dozen I think to put on the chopping block !
I am thinking about keeping First Models one from 1964 , one from 1965 , a pair from 1966 , one from 67 , another from 68 , one from 69 a trio from 1970 , a pair from 1971 , the 444T from 72 and finally my 2001 rifle for the 400 grainers !
That would leave me with 14 444's a 44 MAG and a 45-70 . Sixteen Marlin's should be a plenty !
Well maybe add a nice 39A Mountie from the 1960-1968 period

I kinda like the "Heidi Klum" idea Old No7!
IIRC, Noah Zark has one just like this (a 5" Schofield, not Heidi).
Next on the list for me is restoring funds after the refrigerator/oven debacle before the holidays!

We had a customer about 18 months ago that wanted a M&H from these folks and he was standing in front of me with money to send them . But he wanted me to call and see what the deal was !hfcable wrote:John Taffin put down a deposit also.. i would figure they would get one to him ASAPhightime wrote:Just went to their forum. After talking with the guy who "said" he owned the place I wasn't overcome with enthusiasm for these folks . He was trying to say his quality was as good if not better then Shiloh . Now maybe it is and maybe it isn't but based on the amount of itmes he'd produced I wasn't in a buying mood for what he said . After I got off the phone I told my customer what he said and what I thought . I also told him NOT TO SEND a deposit .
I hope for your sake it works out since you've already sent them money !

Too many centerfire I don't shoot. Enough .22 long guns, but, maybe a Stainless Single 10....For sure, a Shilo Sharps, maybe in 38-55, 405 Win, or the traditional 45-70.....

Pedersoli is supposedly making a Winchester 71 in .45-70. I have yet to hear of any being on this side of the ocean. I think it would go great with my Browning 71 in .348.
I'm with you on the Schofield. I've been looking for a Marlin Cowboy in .38-55, but the prices have been around $1500 for the ones I've found.

$1,500 Wow. Although $900 for the Schofield is pretty hard to take also.

Re: I thought I was done collecting............
I could do with a Merwin & Hulbert in 44-40. I loath the thought of giving a deposit to the new company on the off chance that they'll ever make any revolvers at all. Fascinating gun though. If they do ever make any, I will surely jump in for one.

A Winchester 9422 Trapper and a Finnish M-28 Mosin/Nagant. I just got a beautiful Browning 1886 45/70 SRC that I'm itching to shoot.

Re: I thought I was done collecting............
It's funny how regional things can be. I'm in Central Florida and I've never even seen one at a gun show down here. Yet, if I drove up to a show in the Carolina's or Virginia I bet I'd see a few here and there. I've seen a few on GunBroker, but I'm not savvy enough about M&H to buy one online. Even in person, I wouldn't know what I was doing. But they sure are interesting guns. They seem to be pretty advanced for the time they were manufactured.6pt-sika wrote:I suspect you can get an original M&H if you keep your eyes open for a little more money and ALOT less time !Rimfire McNutjob wrote:I could do with a Merwin & Hulbert in 44-40. While a Thompson would be nice to have I'm not sure after having handled one recently that I'd want one !
We have a customer that bought a 1950's era Thompson recently and we have it in our shop safe while waiting for his ATF license to arrive . I gotta say it ain't the most well balanced or comfortable thing I ever put to my shoulder .

I agree, but........there ain't nothin' like it. Shooting M-16's, M-2 carbines, Hk's etc. get boring to me but 'ya can't get enough of a Thompson. Back in the late seventies, this class 3 dealer in the South (Georgia?) had a mess of Thompsons for sale, including 2 that were documented as being taken from Pretty Boy Floyd. The tag?--$3500. M1-A were $750 and I tried to buy one but the Pa. State Police would not sign off on it. I was just a punk 24 year old and I did not know enough to get a lawyer.
Ah! Probably just as well as I used to drink and smoke weed in those days.
Two months ago I had my hands on the only Colt M1-A Thompson ever made. It had an experimental serial number---X1 My bud has it now but he don't want to shoot it.

USED TO ? Don't tell me your a quitter -
back on point --- i have had my eye open for a HK91 at a certain price point for a while (real HK, not cetme or PTR) -- if one crosses my path , i may have to make another decision that will make my wife very unhappy
Like OS and Joe, i also would like a couple of new 3rd Gen SAA's in the 3.5" Shopkeeper version and a 7.5" version for me though
There is already a space in my safe reserved for a 3" barreled Python (if i can find one in the elusive $1200 price range that is)
LEverguns so far for me have always been targets of opportunity -- i dont go out actively looking for any specific model because my actual "needs" are covered there, but i do want an 1895 someday and one of the neat little takedown Miroku 92's in 45 Colt as well -- modern shooters are fine for me with those, -
