Pics of a few mule deer. BIG pics.
My dad stopped about 3 miles from one of our farms and took these two pics of someone's field. He said there were probably at least 100 mule deer in the field, and he saw a bunch more over about a 20 mile drive. Most of the bucks have shed because he only saw 1 set of antlers out of all the deer.
Sorry for the size of the pics.

From our back yard (actually our next door neighbor's).
When I bought this house in 1975, we were on the north edge of town. Now we're within 2 miles of the geographic center of town!!!

We have some 20-30 acres of "open space" wooded area behind us that will never be developed.
For some reason, though, the mule deer seem reluctant to come over our fence.
We do have a welcoming committee.

Here is the tank next to the carport at the farm house.
He bedded down about 15 yards from the house.
I thought I'd see how close he would let me get. He finally moved at about 5 yards.
I thought raccoons lived in every city and suburb in the country.
Have you got Roadrunners? I just asked my wife to email me some pics of ours. The dogs don't seem to bother them. They've lived in our yard for the last 4 years.

Great pics Bitmap!
The deer drinking out of the tank, he's got a huge set of mule deer looking ears, but his rack looks like a young whitetail.
Are you in an area where the species overlap? Have you ever seen a mule/whitetail hybrid out there.
An old boss of mine had some family land way out in west Texas. He had
pictures of a buck he killed that looked like a cross. I couldn't tell by looking at the pics what he had. It definitely looked like a mule deer, but the rack was all whitetail.

We have both in the area, but I've never seen a whitetail near the house. I've seen some that made me wonder including a doe that had big ears like a mule deer but she was reddish brown instead of grey and had a whitetail tail.deerwhacker444 wrote:Great pics Bitmap!

It's hard to see in the middle pic but if you look carefully where his head is in profile you can see he's got the front-to-back fork in his antlers, even though they are small.
Thanks for the kind words. We've had Mastiffs for decades and showed them in the past but these are the best and biggest we've ever had. Little sis Katie (brindle) weighed in at the vets at only 199# while big bro Charley was 202#. They ate a lot while growing but now about half what one might expect - I get 96# of dry food (2 bags) every 3 or 4 weeks now they are 3 1/2 years old. They are clowns -GREAT PICS GUYS
THOSE DOGS CRACK ME UP.....
DID THEY COME WITH A SADDLE.....
i BET THEY EAT THEM OUT OF HOUSE AND HOME....
For some reason, even the raccoons left when the puppies wanted just to play with them.
