Per Nath's Thread... though I didn't shoot anything today It was a good day to observe... though "green" is not what I'd call Wyoming in December. (Lucky Limeys...)
Not exactly "levergun" fare, but it's all that's legal on this property. Love the Rossi Snake Charmer though. Carries like an M4.
And I got to dance with 8 Mulie Does for about 2 hours (sorry for lousy Phone Pics... but they are about 60yds away. Worked my way aroud to the pod to between 50-75 yds 4 times.).
Live Habituation... the best form of hunting!

Though I WISH I still had my ROA... But still, the 1858 is handier since I wasn't lucky/quick enough to get a 5" ROA while the were available for less than the cost of a Black Rifle...
O.S.O.K: The Area (yes, it's "state land") is "Shotgun, Muzzleloader & Archery Only".
When I'm really interested in "hunting" it for birds & bunnies I'll bring my 16ga double, but for dinking around and targets of opportunity, the Snake Charmer is handier... and doesn't rust.
When deer season hits it's Flintlock Time (even though a slug thrower will ballisticly out-shoot my Flinter & M92 every day of the week, and my 1858 Rem will match most .45 Colt Pistols... )

I got to get my camera working! I remember the woods I treked as a kid in a special way. A network of bush trails, swamps, hay fields and creeks that could be explored a thousand times from breakfast to supper and always delight and make the world a gentler place to a kid.
The wide open country brings back my younger days of remote hunting alone in the Rockies or deep in the boreal forest of our north. I know all the warnings about travelling alone but I still do it, I just can't go as far. We are blessed with vast areas of Crown land still, your BLM areas I think. I'm blessed to have my company pay me to travel out there, read free gas!
If you are "walking about" in this country you are in a heap of trouble, 35-40 miles from the nearest pavement, the same distance at least from a structure and many miles from water. Back side of the Oregon Buttes about 10 miles in the distance, northwest corner of Wyoming's Red Desert. More or less a 50-mile square area of BLM, lots of room to run and play.
I am blessed in that I can go out my back door and walk for an hour or so and not be bothered by anyone. I may still hear cars etc but all I see are trees and small openings.
If i really want to get away, I can go to my cousins farm on the end of a dirt road and probably get lost if I don't pay attention to direction I'm walking. (this was my grandfathers farm)
Either way it is a great way to get rid of everyday pressures of life as we live it now. Hopefully in a few more years I can do thid whenever I want.
Happiness is a comfortable stump on a sunny south facing mountain.
Nice thing for me is that that WMA is just under a mile from my house.

Thanks for sharing your beautiful 'walkabout' areas.
I think each of us likely feels a strong and deep personal reaction to such beauty, but unlike the beauty of one's spouse, for instance, such landscapes contain a very shareable beauty.

Wow great pics of some beautiful country, don`t think you`d have to twist my arm to live at any of those locations.
