Indianagirl, thanks for posting the picture.
I have two single barrel .410s an Iver Johnson Champion and a Cooey 84.
At the moment they are my main "go to" guns when I see varmints around my place.
How's the inside of the barrel on yours? A lot of .410s over here suffer from lack of cleaning, so finding one with a clean unpitted bore is a bonus.
Whatever you do always give 100%........... unless you are donating blood.

Yup, there is a lot to learn and I too find this site very educational but mostly expensive as the guys love to suggest ways to spend your money
Here's my Iver Johnson.
Only one squirrel was taken with the .410 the other two fell to my .22LR levergun.

I too shoot a single shot Iver Johnson 410 bore from 1939. It says right on the barrel "barrel and lug forged from one piece of steel". I guess that was something to be proud of in 1939! I just shot the Winchester # 8.5 AA loads on wobble trap and hit 21/25. I love my "trap gun".

21/25 is better than I can do with a .410 my Iver Johnson is the same age and was rechambered for 3" shells by the factory, it is a little off the face now so needs some TLC.

Love the looks of the 9410. I should have bought one when they were around. I do have the Marlin 410 like this one made from 1929 to 32 - very slick in it's operation.

I had the 9410 for a while but never really warmed up to it. It was OK, but just never felt as handy as my '92. I'd like to try the Marlin though... or a Marlin .444 rebarreled to .410... Somehow I think the Marlin would be smoother operating.
I really like my little Rossi "Snake Charmer", and shooting .410s out of my old Damascus 16ga is a hoot too.

Well, I looked down the barrel and it looks shiny, for the most part !
That's good, a gun with a badly pitted barrel can be dangerous as well as losing it's value.
So what do you use to clean your .410, a bore snake or conventional rod and brushes?
Great job on the tin can by the way.

This one has taken countless rabbits, hares, quail and other small game, including one rather large and ill tempered boar coon. A slug went from stem to stern thru that coon. It did a back flip and that was all.

Thanks for the pics, Indianagirl! These old single guns have a very no nonsense elegance to them, don't you think? This style of shotgun has probably killed more game (and Homo Sapiens) than any other type.
Your gun appears to be a "Wards Hercules" made for the old Montgomery Ward store chain. I will guess that it was made by Stevens in the 1930's or 40's. Enjoy it and good shooting on the can!
Winchester M94 30-30 (1980)
Winchester M70 Westerner 30-06 (1982)
Winchester M1 Garand (1942)
Too many others to list - hope to add more levers soon.

See, I learn something new every day here..........bore snake...rod and brushes? Those guys at the farm store where I have been shopping for ammun just shake their heads (and smile)when I come in and ask questions.
Now a Savage 24 is some kinda gun. I have one in 20 ga and 30-30. that is a fine piece. I still want an old 410 single shot like this girl has. When I was growing up every kid had one but me, I had a Stevens 20ga single shot. That little gun put alot of meat on the table. Dad got it for me when I was in the third grade.
