Spending time with my son in the woods
Spent a couple hours setting up our Winter camp back in the pines where there are still some post glacier pines.
We built our lean-to which will have a space blanket set-up when we spend the night which will reflect the heat reflecting from the fire wall down onto us. Also we will hang a tarp off to the left, as our sitting area. I hope to have a sleeping “pocket” with an outer shell of tin cloth and inner of wool for our sleeping, but it may not be done by then.

Cool setup,Your Son looks well pleased with the arrangement. That will be some quality time for sure. I like the idea of the Firewall, should work really well. Enjoy, is this a permanent setup?

Teaching a child to be self reliant is a noble cause. Plus he will remember it even when he is an old man. TIME WELL SPENT!

For the winter it will be home on the weekends. I'll add a addition after awhile. It is on federal land so as long as I don't use live tres (all wind damage or blow downs so far) I'm good to go.pwl44m wrote:Cool setup,Your Son looks well pleased with the arrangement. Those woods look familiar. My old stomping grounds was the Fairview area.

About 100 miles South of fairview. Still very much the same as far as terrain/trees.turnkey wrote:Those woods look familiar. My old stomping grounds was the Fairview area.

Every minute you spend quality time like that with your son, it will in turn be as hours in the future and filled with memories of the precious time together.
Well done!

Shrapnel,
Nice post!! That is my goal for my son as well as my daughters is to get them to see the outdoors as I do.
If I could get her to stay awake. Although in her defense she was away to nationals for marching band the day before and traveled all night by bus. Still insisted on hunting with her dad opening day.

Do it as often as you can, you can't buy back lost time. We had 5 children and we spent as much time together as we could. Sometimes I think we could have done more, but the times we spent together are priceless. 2 boys and 3 girls, and we did alot of hunting/camping.
My oldest daughter, Paige was such a good sport. She went hunting and fishing with me quite often. I cherish those times and memories, as she died last December from cancer. The time we had together is how I want to remember her...
Re: Spending time with my son in the woods
Good times! My kids have about cut me loose and no grandkids yet. I have managed to scrape up one in the meantime.
Re: Spending time with my son in the woods
Well done. Looks like my winter bp camp. Nothing better than time afield with young ones. Blessings

A fine looking camp. We lived in the woods and I built many camps like that growing up. You are teaching him well.
