32-20 Rifle

Post by Marlin-Mo »

Will be my deer hunting rifle. So would the later 1980's Marlin 1894CL be the one to look fer & reload jacketed bullets ? I am sure thar be some who will think i be daft on the cal. Of course many others have called me other names fer using .22 single shot early in my life fer killin many a deer & not at nite friends. I mostly use a Excal vixen to hunt deer with during archery season. So getting up close n personal wid deer ain't nothin new to me, been doing it all my life.

Welcome to the forumn. Wont get any argument out of me whether a 32/20 will take a deer cleanly. I have shot lots of cast out of micro-groove 30/30's. They were all accurate from 4gr Red Dot squirrel load; to the Maximum H335 170 gr FP WW boolit. I would buy whatever 94 I found in 32/20. 3leg
30/30 Winchester: Not accurate enough fer varmints, barely adequate for small deer; BUT In a 10" to 14" barrelled pistol; is good for moose/elk to 200 yards; ground squirrels to 300 metres

I really like the Marlins. I have the 1894-CL, but haven't used it as a deer-rifle, since I have a .44 Mag.

I used to have a Ruger in a 44 mag but it had abit much recoil after i became disabled. I sold it to a good friend a few yrs back. My Pa had a 32-20 he killed some deer n turkeys with back in the early to mid 30's before he went into the Navy. I shot that 3 pt couple weeks back & knew it would shoot through a deer. I was abit surprised when the bullet didn't mushroom. My friend also brought his 38-55 but i didn't see another deer i wanted to kill using it. So i know naught of its recoil, but the 32-20 twas as sweet as any rifle i ever shot. I told my friend i had to have one of'em fer my deer hunting.

I have a CL 32-20 I found NIB a few years ago made in '89. it is a fine rifle and top loads with a 115gr hard cast @1700fps or 100gr XTP's at 2000fps are pretty wicked and very accurate.the 32-20 is one fine round and is easy to load down also.Welcome aboard. :D .

For deer I would recommend the original Winchester High Velocity loading for the 32-20. It put a 115 grain bullet out the barrel at 1,635 fps. Modern factory loads are pretty slow. I chrono'd some at around 1,100 fps.

Welcome to the group. I think that a .32wcf will make a fine close range deer gun. I have an old 1892 Winchester made in 1917 in the 32-20 caliber. I have not killed a deer with it, but a 10 foot gator only needed one round so I reckon that a deer shouldn't be any harder to take. Kirk's right about that load.
