A 1981 John Wayne commemorative Win 1894 in .32-40. I wanted to buy this when it came out in '81 but couldn't afford it. Almost had my Mom talked into buying it, but that fell through too. I don't remember why now. My Dad probably nixed it .

I saw it come up on Gunbroker about 12 days ago, kept watching it and finally decided I really wanted it. This is the 1st gun I've ever bought that I'll never shoot. It'll be a wall hanger.

I've got 2 boxes of it on the way. I bought some when they came out in .30-30 and I think .308, I'll have to check the safe. Didn't expect to own a .32-40 so I hadn't bought any of it.

I've always shied away from 'collector' guns for that reason - I couldn't resist the idea of actually shooting the thing. I'd hate to think of all the collective craftsmanship and fine materials which went into making it, all just to make an ornament instead of a gun. Of course the 'collector value' drops 90% if you shoot it, much less scratch it up a bit, so the practical thing for me is to stay away from such items.

Anyhow, it IS a beautiful piece, and whether or not you shoot it, I hope you enjoy it, as it looks like money well-spent...

I'm with ya on not shooting that one (as long as it is unfired and as NIB to start with ) --- there are plenty of Model 94's out there begging to be taken to the woods but thats not one of 'em

OTOH, i took great pleasure in being the first one to shoot one of my Colt Pythons a couple of years ago, it was an unfired 1977 model that i actually paid a couple hundred bucks more than an equivalent lightly used one --- but mine was plain and unadorned (as much as you can call any Python "plain" that is) --- It was a satisfying treat to put the first rounds downrange with it, -- as i started to learn how to shoot the Colt trigger, i then decided the PO must have been goofy not to shoot the thing

--- i just recounted that tale to show that i see both sides of the coin on whether to shoot or not to shoot ----

but if that Python was an unfired and as new John Wayne commemorative, i would not have pulled the trigger

It likely shoots well, just like the rest of the model 94's out there --- the ones that shoot bad are an exception rather than the rule
