Presently I have 4 single actions and one rifle. Bought my first Ruger in 1974 and my 1894 Marlin in 1997. These days, I am getting more into black powder. Here's a decent group fired with the Marlin @ the 300 meter (327 yards) steel Javelina gong with 40 grs. of Swiss FFG under a 250 gr. bullet lubed with SPG. back in Oct. 2007.
The javelina is 9" high x 22" long and is the 2nd group of silhouettes.

Jack--you snake in the grass! Now I know why you always clean my clock at the levergun matches! BTW--where's that range at? It don't look like the McKean club.------------Sixgun
One difference is with field shooting and not knowing the distance you can't figure the drop that close at long range. Shoot hair - hit hair. Then there is wind drift but great shots can do great work at known and practiced distances. But, it ain't the same.

Thank you for the kind words. On that particular day the conditions were very good and a solid benchrest was used so any one of you could have done the same thing if your eyesight was ok.
My '94 Marlin has a .06" diameter bead front sight (factory was .09") and a Lyman tang sight which certainly helped. I used a 6 o'clock hold.
I fired a total of 10 shots. It took 4 to get the right sight setting and the load was accurate enough to print a decent group. I was elated, to say the least!
Sixgun,
As Noah indicated, that marvelous range is located in Ridgway, PA. I could never shoot like that offhand!
