Hypothetical free floating winchester 92/94 barrel anyone?

Post by Aggiecubpilot »

I was just tossing the idea around in my head and while I realize that it is not an accuracy guarantee or even necessary for the intended use of a lever gun, I think it would be an interesting concept. I believe the Marlin Express chambered rifles have such a configuration. Possibly "unitize" the magazine tube and stock? Who knows what accuracy might develop? Or has it been tried and dismissed?

Forgive my heresy, but I have a curious bored pea brain

I don't think steel floats...

Sorry, didn't sleep well last night. How does one isolate the barrel from the mag tube? Also, WHY? The system works fine as is.

it is probably doable with a button mag levergun....
with a heavier guage cantalevered magazine tube
and the forearm attached to it only..but as Hobie said...why bother...
they work just fine just the way they are....
I have loosened the barrel band on one of my longer barreled 94s
and the groups did tighten up a bit...

The model 64,71 and 94 with half magazine are accurate guess its why tom horn used a 94 w/half mag in 30-30 for shooting rustlers. my 71 can hold 3/4" groups. danny

Yep. EXCELLENT article.

I think there is room for another Savage-99-like levergun without the tubular magazine, too, or an innovator to design a tubular magazine that is detachable-while-loaded, and free-floated vs. the barrel.
