What have you shot lately?

Post by hightime »

It's slow time of year arround here, So targets get picked on a lot. I still carry a pistol arround on the back forties anyway. Last weekend I went to the hunting shack to mow and stayed the night by myself. I woke to some crunching sound about mid-night. I got up to find a porkypine chewing the T1-11 on my new sauna. Izz pizzed and carring a 45 Colt. That's my latest. Not much meat, but plenty toothpicks for later.

Woodchuck. My garden is safe - at least from that critter.

We call 'em "sage rats" around here, but they are really the Belding ground squirrel I've been told. Not much left after being traversed by the Speer 110 sp outa the 30wcf at about 2600fps. Or for that matter, the 60gr cast roundnose from the hornet at 2300fps tends to leave them in two pieces. Our favorite springtime target in Central Oregon...

I haven't shot AT anything living lately but I have been shooting my Father's Day present from my son; 1980 manufactured Sig Sauer P6 (surplus German Police version of P225) 9mm semi-auto. I've never shot or even handled a Sig before but I can't seem to put this thing down. He also gave me a DPMS stripped lower to get me started on my next AR build; 24" bull barreled 223. Which I hope to be shooting at west KS prairie dogs later this year.

Raccoon. Those darned things can do some damage. Neighbor next door though they were so cute till one got into his garage. He keeps a pretty good supply of food there (he buys bulk at Costco). Yep, tore things open till it found what it wanted. It ws probably the same one that decidec my yard was it's toilet, and my spa a nice warm den.

Got in some gopher shooting the first week of June with my brothers and 11 year old nephew, who was visiting from Victoria for a hockey Tournament. My nephew had a blast. The Mosquito's drove his father and I out of the fields after a couple hours, but we had to drag my youngest brother and nephew out around 6:30 pm, so we could catch the hockey game.

Took the Remington 1890 to the range last week and practiced a bit with CC gun as well. Only put a hunnert down range but that was enough.

On the home front mostly been shooting sky rats with a Beeman air gun. They like to poop all around my pool and I like to kill 'em for it.

Steel plates. I got my 38-55 consistantly hitting plates at 200, 300 and 400 yards. Dug out the 444 and starting to work on a more pleasant load to shoot steel with. Also picked up a used Blackhawk in 327 fed. I can hit the 200 yard steel with that. But the factory loads are way too loud and hot for me. I'm going to load up heavier bullets and slow them down , factory stuff was chroning at 1650 fps. Nice shooting pistol.

I thinned out the turtle and Frog population in my favorite fishing hole last weekend.

Had some good fun with the my Ruger No. 1 in 22-250 and Marlin 39A a few weeks ago. Both make nice, small little clusters of .22 holes. Good therapy!

20-30 pound coon that had been raiding a friend's feed room. Shot him at night with a Glock 23 in 40 S&W. Surefire flashlight sure came in handy.

Finished off a squirrel in the backyard with the RWS 34 air rifle. Our black lab stalked it and grabbed it off the trunk of one of the lemon trees. Broke its back most likely thinking it was a play-thing.
