I have a pre-safety but recent Winchester 94 30-30, and I just purchased a nice Marlin 336 Texan 30-30. One of them is going to get a tang sight. What do you guys like best? Lyman? Marbles? I know the vintage Lymans are great, i was wondering more about current production sights...if any are worth having.
As a side question, there seem to be conflicting reports about the 66A receiver sight - does it fit a 94AE?
Thanks all for the benefit of your experience.
What tang sight to install on a Win 94 or Marlin Texan 336?

For the Winchester, the Marbles tang sight would be just fine. Marbles are superior to the Lyman in that the Marbles has windage adjustment, the Lyman does not.
For the 336, you will be better off with a receiver sight, the bolt comes back so far that a tang sight is just about impractical. The Marbles tang for this rifle has a very large clumsy mount that gets in the way of your thumb.

Receiver sights replaced tangs sights for a reason. You have two prime candidates for RECEIVER sights. The 94AE mounting holes for scopes make it a prime candidate for an XS. To bugger up a 336T with a tang sight is nearly sacrilegious.
Of course, this is just my opinion and they are your guns. See http://www.levergunscommunity.com/viewt ... =1&t=35429

I agree with Hobie - except I prefer the Williams FP 94-36 for the Winchester 94 - I have one on both of mine - removing the aperture makes it a ghost ring sight good for my aging eyes -

and, on my Winchester 95 -

Requires a little taller front sight but, I like the White Stripe front sights -

Don't be thinking that these rifles are for show since they are commemoratives or Hi-Grade - they are either ones I got a good price on or - the 95 was my 25th anniversary gift from my wife six years ago - and it would hurt her feelings if I didn't shoot it -
Besides, I got it for $15.00 under the MSRP "NIB, unfired, with manual" on GA - apparently in some estate being settled. All my guns are for shooting - the fact they have been shot will only be of concern to my estate -
The Canadian Centennial was used but good shape for a middle range price ($350) but the Buffalo Bill one was one of those times I was in the right place at the right time - Winchester sold them in pairs and my guess was my dealer friend (good friend) had sold the one with the 20" barrel and made his profit there and just wanted to unload the 26" barreled one to me - would you believe $90.00 NIB ???
I miss him - he also sold me a used but near factory condition 6" Python that same year (1968) for $99.00
I would say it comes from living a clean life but, I don't want to lose all credibility here -

I am a fan of the Williams FP. Have a number of them.

I am a fan of the Williams sights also. I had a newer aluminum base Lyman on my 30-30 M94 Trapper; looked great but it was very hard to adjust. Trapper now has a 5D. I prefer FPs but the 5D is a good sight if you only shoot one load from rifle (set once, leave it alone).
