OT - where do you get 'cannon fuse' ?

Post by AJMD429 »

My kid's science project calls for some 'underwater cannon fuse', and I used to just order it from someplace by mail when I was a kid. Can't find any now.

Don't know if the 'underwater' part is important (the fuse won't be underwater), but is our society now so paranoid that stuff like that is 'evil' and no longer sold? What do people who use black powder cannons use (or are those now considered 'bad' as well...?)

AFAIK it is all waterproof. It's exactly the same stuff those evil, awful, pre 1968 cherry bombs and ash cans used, and yes, the fishing was good :)

My buddy and I used to pick some up on our yearly run down to Dixie Gun Works in Union City, Tn.........don't know if they still have it or not, but I would bet they do.

Added:
Most of the cannoneers I've seen lately use the burning wick to light off their shots, and some have even converted to percussion using musket caps.........I saw one set up that used shotshell primers, not authentic, but got the job done.

Doc,
Easily available. I see it all over at various gunshows, gunshops, etc. If you get stuck, drop me a PM and I'll get you some as I believe I have several feet around here.------------Sixgun
