Large loop lever for my Rossi
I have a Rossi R92-51011, 38/357, stainless steel, 24" octagon barrel with the factory small lever. I'm looking for a large loop lever in stainlees steel similiar to The Rifleman's Rifle. Can anyone point me in the correct direction............. Thanks, Frank

Re: Large loop lever for my Rossi
i dont think anyone makes the chuck conners version of the large loop....
except for the chuck conners commorative rifle imported by Legacy Sports Inter./
Puma rifles made by ....Chiappa in italy.......and that run of rifle was closed out...
and i dont know if you can order the part or not.....or if it will fit on a Rossi
looky here

The actual rifle used in the show was given to a close friend of Chuck Conners...
Arnold Palmer....and Palmer has put it in a golf world museum in Saint Augustine Fl...
that loop is huge.....

Try http://store.stevesgunz.com/ - I see the complete guns listed there, but I'll bet he has the large-loop levers as well, or can direct you to some.
His email is linked to on the site.
Of course, maybe if all else fails, you could convince Pitchy to modify your lever; he posted how he did his own Marlin lever (he wanted more of a longer vs. wider loop, but the concept would be pretty similar). Here's the thread, in case you missed it:

I had one for my rossi 44 mag, what a waste of time and money. slowed down action time. I would not waste my time or my money again on such a thing. IMHO

Frank,
I can't be of any specific help, but on this and other forums I am on I can remember a number of members removing the large loop levers from their Rossis and putting on standard ones.
So if you put a WTB add in the classified you might find one that's been removed to buy.
It's worth a chance.

Re: Large loop lever for my Rossi
I know you weren't asking about functionability and others here will no doubt chime in on that. I had a rossi from Steve in .357, was a two tone .357 and I LOVED the large loop. I have also had a Wild West Gun large loop that was not so large as the one on the Rossi and I loved that one. I'm looking for a .44 mag trapper with a large loop and I plan on sending an 1895 to WWG to have it modified to take one. They are not as fast but I like the extra room them give my big mit, especially when wearing gloves. Steve should be able to help you with your request.

Re: Large loop lever for my Rossi
I would like to have one like I saw on a Marlin once that was in between the normal and large.
I had a time of it getting my work gloves through the loop on my Rossi last weekend and had I been hunting, I would have blown the shot fumbling. In the Fall and Winter months, the gloves I wear are insulated and they would be even more of a pain to get into the loop quickly. Being straight, maybe the Rossi lever wouldn't be too difficlut to open up a little - not diminishing the skill or effort that it takes....

Re: Large loop lever for my Rossi
There've been two styles on the Rossis--a larger rounded D loop, and a more elongated/oval John Wayne type. The larger one does a passable job in the "Rifleman" looks department. I had a trapper with the loop and 20" carbine without. Seemed opposite to what they should be so had 'em swapped out. The 20" looks great now and the trapper more proportionally lever'd with the standard item. I won't argue the functionality aspect of the big loop (and though have questioned, I still like and I have another regular one anyway), but I too wanted at least one with that look. I didn't--and wouldn't--actually make the trip-fire (trigger screw) modification. Steve can likely outfit you with the larger loop (not shown in the one photo which is more the JW style).

Re: Large loop lever for my Rossi
Frank,
Rossi has offered THREE styles of large loop levers (photograph courtesy of Steve Young):

The top one is the most common style. The middle one was discontinued, several years ago. The bottom one is sometimes called a "three-quarter" loop lever, because it is a little smaller that the largest lever that Rossi made.
If you really want a custom-made lever, more like The Rifleman had, then you can try to get "WOODCHUCK45" to convert your small lever into one:

...if you can contact him. Also, Mike Dimuzio makes levers that are patterned after Lucas McCain's lever:

Re: Large loop lever for my Rossi
what would be nice would be for a qualified mechanic (artist) to make a lever that is 1/2"deeper and 1" longer. probably sell a bunch of them. Or maybe just an add on that a local gunsmith could cut and insert on existing levers.

I stand corrected. I'd forgotten about the extra one. I have the top style in the three-lever pic, and find it most reminiscent of the one (I think) we most often think of as the Rifleman's (though he also had two, IIRC). Thanks for the clarification.

Re: Large loop lever for my Rossi
I like some of the more 'modest' loops that are teardrop-shaped or otherwise more just designed for large and/or gloved hands, vs. for show or trick shooting.
