Re: Available Soon: Rossi M92 "El Jefe" .22LR Levergun
Side loader? That will be interesting, and nice if it works.
Taurus 'security system'? Yuch. More lawyer-proofing.
Is the receiver going to be a real chunk 'o steel and not that plastic molded looking think like on the Henry rifles?

Is it a side loader? I can't tell. Had a marlin 1891 side loader for a while but chamber was pitted and wouldn't extract well. Like the design of this one.wecsoger wrote:Side loader? That will be interesting, and nice if it works.

A real prize. Made in Brazil, top ejection, and typical load-through-port in magazine tube. I'll stick with my never-fail Henry - made in the US of A,

If I didn't have a stable of 22lr levers I'd definitely be picking one up.

Those are DIRT cheap. If the quality is good I might pick up a couple, but a CLOSE examination is a must.

i agree! suspect they may also offer it in 22 magnum. would be nice if they could make up a version in 32H&R or even 327 federal.Mike D. wrote:Those are DIRT cheap. If the quality is good I might pick up a couple, but a CLOSE examination is a must.

Re: Available Soon: Rossi M92 "El Jefe" .22LR Levergun
Me likey. This seems to be one of the first truely inovative lever gun to come out in awhile. Steel construction and I love the idea of a .22 with a loading gate if it works. I don't have an issue with the Henrys. Not a big fan of the price dealers want for em considering the availability of better guns, new and used, for not much more money. I'm also wondering whats taking Henry so long to remove the UGLY paint and bad sudo brass job from their receiver covers and offer them in brushed silver like many guys are doing to their guns at home. I'm not too down on Henry though as they have some very big upsides.
But being an everyday american I'd get the new, all steel, loading gate Rossi lever gun before I'd buy a Henry given equal reliability. Not to get too political but we need to change laws to make it easier for companies like Rossi to build their guns here instead of driving everyone over seas (or easier for Henry to build a better all steel .22's and still remain competitive).

Re: Available Soon: Rossi M92 "El Jefe" .22LR Levergun
looking carefully at the pictures i cant see a side loading gate, and it definitely appears to have a knurled knob on the end of the mag tube, so i suspect it loads in the usual fashion of 22s.

Re: Available Soon: Rossi M92 "El Jefe" .22LR Levergun
Yeah, I don't understand that either. Clearly the side loading gate is not in the pictures and the knurled end knob is but the text refutes both. I wonder if we aren't seeing a prototype and/or PR department text without knowing exactly what the final product is going to look like?hfcable wrote:looking carefully at the pictures i cant see a side loading gate, and it definitely appears to have a knurled knob on the end of the mag tube, so i suspect it loads in the usual fashion of 22s.
Were I a betting man, I'd bet on mag tube loading exactly as the pictures seem to indicate.

I'd like to see and handle a real specimen before I make up my mind. It looks nice but how is it in reality?

It may say "Rossi", but it's still a "Taurus". Remember how long the "high quality" repro Win 62 & 63 & Colt Lightning lasted? I think I'll pass.
I know a whole lot about very little and nothing about a whole lot.

Re: Available Soon: Rossi M92 "El Jefe" .22LR Levergun
the quality of rossi and taurus is variable, i agree. however most of their 92 replicas work well and are strong. i got one of the 63 replicas in a trade for something else- i expected to send it on down the road. it was new in the box with tang sight on it already and i just had to try it out and i must say, it has worked flawlessly and quite accurately. i decided to keep it.jdad wrote:It may say "Rossi", but it's still a "Taurus". hopefully this 22 will be similar, tho i do recall they were promising a 32 H&R lever gun that never materialized either. still at this price i will likely go for it and soon. i am an addict.

Years ago (20+?) when the Taurus model 62 copy came out my Dad bought one because he liked my Winchester 62 so much. I was really surprised, it was (and still is) a pretty good shooter. Good metal polish and bluing, good wood to metal fit (have no clue what type of wood though). Never jammed on 22 Shorts or LRs.
One of my BILs inherited it when my Dad died, he still shoots it. That M62 is my only experience with Rossi or Taurus long guns but based on it, I would try one.
BTW, I would have jumped at the chance to buy one the the Taurus M62 levers; but have never, ever seen one.

Thats what i noticed too.
I'm pretty happy with my Henry, but if they offer it in .22 Mag, i would think about it fairly seriously

Another hold out for .22Mag. if the L.R.'s prove to be viable.
Re: Available Soon: Rossi M92 "El Jefe" .22LR Levergun
It'd be nice if they'd d&t it for the Taurus tang sight in addition to a scope. Even a receiver sight would be nice.

Rossi 62's are good guns I use one in 22 mag for varmints and such I have seen the 62 levers at guns shows cant remember the $ though. danny

If you do a search here, a thread or two w/pics should come up.

Whats the Beef with Taurus??? Just curious. Got two of their handguns, since 1999, both shoot good, and have never had any need of service etc... finished good.. are they slipping these days??

They did but I don't know if they're still being made.
The one below recently came up for sale in Aust:
Re: Available Soon: Rossi M92 "El Jefe" .22LR Levergun
Yep, we've still got Nancy's Taurus M62LAR. Good gun. Nice fit and finish, solid, very accurate. Like the Lightning replicas they made, it has a captured cartridge carrier that uses the nose of the captured round to keep the next round in the tube and is therefore very OAL sensitive. Paco's Accuriz'r changed the OAL enough to render the rounds unusable.
Kind regards,
Tycer

Re: Available Soon: Rossi M92 "El Jefe" .22LR Levergun
I bought my stainless 62LAR when they first came out. I replaced the saddle ring with a take-down screw/knob from a 62 (23'' barrel somehow didn't match the saddle ring), and added a Taurus tang peep sight. Also removed the safety, and plugged with a Steve's Guns 92 safety plug which fit fine with a little filing. Shimmed the lever with stoned brass washers as it was a tad loose and rattley.hfcable wrote:quote: " BTW, I would have jumped at the chance to buy one the the Taurus M62 levers; but have never, ever seen one."
