"Snub Nose" 94 Winchester .44 Magnum (pics)

Post by Cocked & Locked »

What can you guys tell me about this one? It is a large loop 94AE .44 magnum with a saddle ring and 16" barrel. It does have the cross-bolt safety.

I was checking out a S&W model 60 and saw this used carbine daring me to buy it...so, I did.

Is it a Wrangler? Most newer versions of Wranglers I've seen pics of say "Wrangler" on the receiver. This one does not. The barrel is marked with "Made in New Haven. Conn. USA".

It sure does carry well in my hand.

Thanks for any additional info.

Holy cow, what's the length of pull on that stock, that thing sure looks tiny but sweet. Sorry I don't have any information.

My wrangler in 357mag is the tang safety version, and doesn't have anything marked either on the barrel or receiver. Only the box is marked as such.

Same as my Trapper, Legacy or Trails End.

The only one I'm familiar with (that I have) that actually has the model stamped on it, is the Ranger 30-30

That little snub nose snot is shore a fine looking handy as a pocket on a shirt little carbine. I like it.
That looks like what my dad would call a bar room blaster.

I believe 13.5" is the standard length of pull on 94s. And unless my eyes are worse than I thought that looks like a 20" carbine barrel.

What sub-model that is I don't know though. I'm really not familiar with the AEs.

I dug out my catalogs and from '85 to '06 I did not find any 20" barreled carbines with large loop levers. The only 94s with large loops were the Trapper length guns.

Of course it could be a model not cataloged, or a one year offering in a catalog I don't have. Or someone might have retro fitted it with the large lever.

The Wranglers were 16-inchers with the ringlever, the Trappers were 16-inchers without the ringlever.
I have a Wrangler, and I have a pseudo-Wrangler that was a Trapper when I bought it but now has the ringlever on it that Winchester sold separately for two or three years.
Both are Angle-Eject versions like the one in the photo.

YOU HAVE A TREASURE

Post by blueroan »

Shoot this little jewel and don't make the mistake I did. I let my stepson have my 1894 Marlin, cut down to 16.5, and then the #$%@ let someone rook him out of it. I carried that gun for 20 years in a saddle scabbard...it only came out to be shot or occasionally cleaned and oiled. Put a set of Uncle Mike's quick detachable sling swivels on it and carry it upside down behind your left arm. You will be enlightened on how useful this gun can be...use it like you would a Super Black Hawk or other long barrelled pistol in 44 caliber. 75 yards and under, it's like a lightning bolt!
When they said SHARPS, I always thought BIG 50!

That looks like the Wrangler.44 in my safe. Sold a Redhawk .44 to buy it and have been happy ever since. Does well with 300 gr bullets.
