anybody here shoot 5 stand....
I am off this morning to shoot skeet and 5 stand....
and for the guys that never heard of this....
Five Stand is very similar to Sporting Clays in that a wide variety of targets are thrown. No two five-stands are exactly alike. There are five "stands" or stations to shoot from. There are usually somewhere between 6 and 8 traps that throw targets. Participants shoot in turn at each of the 5 stands and various combinations of targets are thrown from the traps. Usually there is a menu card that will advise the shooter of the sequence of targets. Five Stand is a great way to get a Sporting Clays like experience in a small amount of space, with very little walking. these target come in a variety of directions to simulate hunting...from rabbits
to springing teal....to high flying duck....to quail....and in different size targets...
ya have to give it a try!

Sounds fun. Until I figure out (and have the time for) shotshell reloading though, I can't imagine shooting that kind of volume recreationally these days with the cost of ammo...

I shot 5 stand a little back when I was also on a Sporting Clays league. It's a lot of fun, but I still preferred the Sporting Clays course.
Have fun!

I had a guy throwing for me who could see my shot strings and who told me how much to lead each clay and I busted 22. Next round without him I busted two.
Kind regards,

Hate 5 stand, but love skeet, sporting clays, and live birds.

5-stand is a lot of fun. I too prefer sporting clays but sometimes I dont have the time for a full round of clays. I shoot a lot of skeet, and when I want to brush up for hunting season I shoot a lot more clays and 5-stand. Ive seen a lot of money change hands among some of the serious competition shooters on certain shots. Again, its a ton of fun!
Re: anybody here shoot 5 stand....
5 stand is all I go shoot because the guys who shoot trap don't like it. So there is always an open spot to get in .

Amen to that....and its usually because they cant hack it!BenT wrote:5 stand is all I go shoot because the guys who shoot trap don't like it. So there is always an open spot to get in .

5 stand is good stuff. When on, a round can puff you up
, then turn on you during the next and really present a humbling experience.
I like it though!

I like sporting better for a couple reasons. Mainly it takes longer and you get to do more BS'n and Bustin on your buddies. Five stand goes too fast for me, kind of like shooting trap, I like the more social aspect of Sporting.

The only thing i dont like about sporting clays...is going to a brand new course...
and having no idea where the birds are going ....and what the distances are....
for some reason they like long shots down here.....
it may take a few shots...and may have to change the chokes...and the shells
but its fun figuring it out.
