Re: WAY OT: UFO SIGHTING
The most challenging position from a logic point of view is saying what isn't.
Re: WAY OT: UFO SIGHTING
The Maji were Zoroastrian priest-astronomers (actually more like astrologers) from the East (in present day Iran) who were highly adept at predicting the positions of planets based on early astronomical calenders. The Star of Bethelehem is believed to have been a rare conjunction of the planets Saturn and Jupiter in the constellation Pisces. Pisces the fish was a symbol associated with the Jews by the Zoroastrians and later adopted as a Christian symbol by the early Christians. The Zoroastrians knew the story that there would be a heavenly sign of a king to be born among the Jews and that this would be the greatest king who would rule over all of the Earth.Old Savage wrote:Ganji, I probably believe the same things you do. The "Star" that stopped over Bethlehem obviously wasn't a star in the sky - they don't stop over anything. Whatever they followed in the desert was a cloud by day and pillar of fire by night. That doesn't attach to anything that we can identify. The Baptists I know tend to attribute anything unidentifiable like this now to works of the devil or the like. Doesn't make sense to me where they draw this conclusion from the scriptures. I think there is something there that we can't determine.
I agree with you that the Bible speaks clearly to those of faith.
The fact that the rare conjunction was occurring in the constellation Pisces was proof to the Maji that the king of the Jews would soon be born. You can imagine them traveling by caravan and watching the stars each night as they camped. They saw the planets slowly converging with each night and so they knew that the birth was soon to happen. They just didn't know where specifically, but they had faith that they would find the newborn. Their faith was so strong that they didn't even question why the king of the Jews was being born in the little out of the way place called Bethlehem.
Modern computers have calculated that this conjunction did in fact occur, and some planetariums have shows at Christmas to demonstrate what it looked like as the planets appear to merge. This conjunction was predictable and that is why the Maji were watching for it to see if it actually took place. The stopping and starting was due to the planets appearing to stop and then reverse direction and again start moving as the earth changed position over time.
By the way, there is a conjunction this weekend between Jupiter and Venus in the southwestern sky after sunset. If you have clear skies you can see as the planets converge and then diverge over the next few nights.

I have been watching them - thought one was the mothership.
Re: WAY OT: UFO SIGHTING
I am probably opening my self up to a lot of ridiclue but here it goes.
I lived in Arcadia Ca. in 1955 near the foothills, it was about noon when my friend and I saw a bright light going in and out of the canyons. It would travel to the left or right and imediately reverse direction, it was all over the place and then just went straight up an vanished. When it would fly into the shadows of a canyon, it would iluminate the canyon.
There have been a lot of creditable witnesses and film to just blow it off as a weather ballon

As to the Star of Bethlehem, you must look at this. This will give you an idea of how a star "stopped" over Bethlehem as well OS. http://www.bethlehemstar.com/

Re: WAY OT: UFO SIGHTING
Judging by the "V" formation, speed and direction I'd say it was a flock of geese heading south with their hi-beams on.

It's them Klingons. Probably having problems with the cloaking machine again.
But really folks, Aliens? Shoot, it happens all the time. Heck, I married an alien. She's a good cook, and a great smoocher
and with most guns, a better shot than me. Now I've tried and tried but still can't hit shtick with a phaser. Been with her for 17 years last September.
Here she is with the 1892.

How about a flight of ducks with those chemical light tubes in their bills.TedH wrote:Last night I was driving out to the farm where I was going deer hunting in the morning. I came around a corner and noticed a large bright light in the sky. At first I thought it must be a plane, but as I got a better look it just didn't look "right". I'm out in the middle of nowhere, so I pull the truck over and stop. The object is south of me and clearly traveling in an easterly direction. The light appears to be kind of long and stretched out at first, so I dig through my pack and get out my binoculars. Through the glasses it is plain to see that it is not one bright light, but at least 6 separate white lights in a "V" shape. I could not see any red or green strobes that are usually seen on normal aircraft at night, just the bright white lights that appeared to be at the rear of whatever craft this was.
Now I'm not a crazy Roswell freak or anything, and I'm not even saying I think this could have been extraterrestrial. It was just an object that was flying, that I could not identify. It was a pretty exciting few minutes though.
Any thoughts as to what kind of plane might look that way at night?

I have an email addy for him, but on the few occasions I've tried to email him he's not answered. I don't know if the addy is good or what.BlaineG wrote:I think Joe has contact with Ji......could be wrong.
He has re-registered here on the forum, but under a slightly different name.
My one and only UFO sighting happened out in the AZ desert.
I was watching the stars when a group of lights came on towards the north. They just sat there, not moving or making any sounds for the longest time. Gradually they started to move. As they got closer I began to hear a strange buffeting type sound. Then when they were almost over head I could finally get a look through the binocks and saw that it was a formation flight of military helicopters running with their landing lights on.
The wind was blowing just right to keep the rotor noise away for the longest time.
As for weather or not ET exists, I consider the idea that we humans are the only intelligent beings in the galaxy extremely arrogant and conceited to say the least. As others have said, there is no way to know. Perhaps someday in the future.

Re: WAY OT: UFO SIGHTING
Growing up and now living again between White Sands & Roswell, N.M. you can well imagine what I have seen over the years.
There IS something up there, what it is : I am not qualified to say.
And I spent my life working in aircraft.
