FREE FOOD FOR VETS!!!
I got an e-mail from Chili's yesterday saying that they were offering free food to veterans, both past and active duty with proof on veteran's day. They said there are 6 items on the menu available. Call a Chili's near you for more details.

Several restaurants do this. Look for it if you're interested.

In my part of Florida, Applebee's, Golden Corral, and Outback Steakhouse are all providing freebees to veterans.
I would go, but I made a vow upon my discharge from the navy forty years ago that I would never, ever, stand in another chow line as long as I live!

Applebee's in Oregon... but get there EARLY EARLY so you don't have to stand in the 'chow line' - and I agree with you Fiddler... 25 years in the Canoe Club cured me!

Re: FREE FOOD FOR VETS!!!
Wife mentioned this to me. I felt a little bittersweet. I exclaimed to her that i worked fairly hard to be able to afford my own food, although i dont begrudge anybody else grabbing a cheap lunch at all.
She didnt quite understand my sentiment (not sure if i do either). I made a donation to my local homeless veteran shelter and picked up some cases of food from Sams for a local non-kill animal sanctuary close to my house instead.

Hooters in So.Cal was also giving free food to any active duty military or veterans. Missed it.

It's enough for me to know that they are thinking of us....I'll eschew that, and let someone go that needs it more than I do

I'm just glad to see veterans are finally getting some of the respect and thanks they deserve.

I hear you. My wife simply can not understand. For me, it is a mis-directed though well intended thing. On top of that, I didn't really do anything deserving of people bowing and scraping for me.Streetstar wrote:Wife mentioned this to me. I felt a little bittersweet. When I went by Applebee's there was a line all around the building, the lot was full and they were parking in adjacent lots. I saw a retired GENERAL standing in line. That frosted me a bit. A couple of the other fellas there I know and I know they could use a free meal. Due to prior planning and discipline (learned in the service) I am not suffering in the least. I don't take what I don't need.

Re: FREE FOOD FOR VETS!!!
It's a good start. too many of our combat vets are living on the streets. Let's throw all of the political stuff aside and help those who put their lives on the line to keep us safe and free.
