Gas Check Bullets
Anybody know a good source of gas-checked cast bullets for .38/.357, in the weight range of 155-160 gr.? I'd like to get a small qty. for some load testing, but don't want to set up to do bullet casting. The only source I've found wants more than jacketed bullets for them.

Thanks, Don. That's exactly what I wanted.Don McDowell wrote:http://www.montanabulletworks.com/357.html

Re: Gas Check Bullets
You're welcome.
I've not shot any of their pistol bullets, but the bigbore rifle bullets I've got from them have been good.

Re: Gas Check Bullets
What use are you looking for? Of those bullets on Montana's site, the LBTs are my preference for just about anything.
Kind regards,

For Cowboy Pistol Cartridge metallic silhouettes. I want to try some fairly hot loads in my .357 Rossi, hence the need for gas checks.Tycer wrote:What use are you looking for? Of those bullets on Montana's site, the LBTs are my preference for just about anything.

If your cast bullets are pretty hard (17 or over) you probably can't get them fast enough to lead. I have some LRNFP that are 18 and have driven to to high 1700 fps with absolutely no leading, even after a hundred rounds. They are most accurate a few hundred fps slower however.

Do not forget to slug your barrel. Diameter is key to zipping cast bullets!
