It's a bit cool here on the Mountain this morning, about 40*F. Someone in the neighborhood has a fire in the woodburner, and I can smell the woodsmoke. Brings campfires and camping to mind.

We live in a little valley, and when the temperature/wind is just right, the smoke from our furnace (totally wood, no 'backup') sometimes just lays in the air and doesn't dissipate.
One day after a 8" cherry tree that had blown down during a storm had been burned all day, I pulled in the driveway, and upon getting out to open the gate, smelled what reminded me of my deceased uncle's pipe-tobacco, all through our little valley. It was pretty cool...

It's been dumping rain (relatively) here in San Diego all week. Of course, you have to remember that means we've gotten an inch or so over the past 5 days.
27º this AM. People have been using their wood stoves for a bout the last month or so. So far no snow this year but expect it any day now. Surprised it hasn't snow yet.
It was 71 for a low this morning and it's going to be 88 today (25 miles SW of Houston). We did have some cool mornings a couple of weeks ago when it was in the upper 40s.
My small town has a burn pile near the city implement barn where you are left on your honor to only put tree cuttings, grass or other non processed burn material (no lumber or other trash). On one of those cool mornings they were burning the pile and I drove by. The smoke came in my window and immediately got me planning a trip to the woods.
32 this morning. Quite a few folks around here that have wood stoves so lots of wood smoke here as well. Not looking forward to snow but I know it will be here soon enough.

My temps have been up and down, down to -10°C some nights. I heat mostly with the Wood Stove, WHY? Wood Stoves and levers go hand in hand We have had Indian Summer the last week and it was nice, too warm to even go hunting!

yep ... monsoon season here in san diego, why it even washed off the driveway
but I did throw a log on the fire. and made char cloth. would loved to have had
a few feet of show
Yep - I've been smelling woodsmoke a little bit for a
couple of weeks now. It' been down in the 20s several
mornings this week. Probably only another month or so of
motorcycling to work before the snow flies.
I love the smell of woodsmoke and fallen leaves this time
of year. And fresh bread like Hankster said....
