I've been following an auction on GunBroker since well before Christmas on a Winchester 92 in .25-20. The seller had it listed as a "buy now" for $799, then reduced it to $699 before Christmas. It has been relisted a dozen times and never topped $600. No wonder - it is obviously refinished (metal) and he admits the bore is rough. He also claims a 3-day return but no disassembly or shooting - which doesn't instill any confidence, even for just a shooter (which is what I was thinking).
Then last week a pretty good to darn good original went for $2,526 - having started relatively low (in the $700's) and skyrocketing the last hour of bidding. I was NOT involved in this! Here's the link:
What also really scares Me is when these used car salesmen post pictures so dark that You can see very little detail. Also the refrence to Annie Oakley is stupid.buyer beware.Jim.
Aw, come on, can't you see that gun is whole lot better looking than that old thing that went for $2995. Why, the finish is brand new! And hey, that bore isn't all that important, is it? The stock finish is just how they are supposed to look, not like that OTHER gun. And clearly, that takedown function on the other gun is just to make it less accurate a solid frame is much preferable. Oh, and he really would let you see how late a gun it is by the serial if you were really SERIOUS, sure he would.
You're just to critical!
Sincerely,
Hobie

The guy that bought the first gun is going to be sadly disappointed when someone points out his new collectable rifle has two extra holes drilled in the side of the receiver.
Come on Ysable Kid, that just sounds like sour grapes. You are just mad because you didn't buy it when you could have gotten if for just an arm. Instead of 2 arms and 2 legs!!!! And that pitted bore, don't worry about it, you can't see it anyway. Remember, Annie Oakley!!!! THis could be her most favoritest gun EVER!!!!!
Shucks guys, I don't even think the first gun was worth $2500. Even though it is a takedown and the wood looks good there are several screws on it that just don't look right. Tops all flattened off. I think it's a old reblue with the lettering freshened up.

I saw that. Looks like it had a side mount on it at one time.
