OT - Bluejeans Question

Post by Tycer »

I'm sort of barrel chested, solid upper body, 20# overweight and have pretty skinny legs. I used to wear GAP easy fit jeans and they were kind of high waisted and my shirts stayed tucked in. They fit great. They were readily available on eBay used for under $20, but have been gone for about five years. I'm sick of my shirts pulling out of the Izod Classic Fits I've been wearing since then.

I'm looking for a similarly built jean like those "sits at the waist" GAP jeans that isn't gonna break the bank. In my work as a working contractor, I kill about ten pairs a year.

Any suggestions?

No, Nancy will NOT allow me to wear suspenders or overalls.
Kind regards,
Tycer

Wrangler jeans & long-tailed shirts - +1

FWIW, Levi jeans don't fit me the same, and are too low waisted for me too - but Wrangler, Cahart & Levi's are the only real "jeans" made, the remainder being (to my mind) designer fru-fru, not designed for the long haul of real work.

Wrangler Cowboy 13mwz or Carhart (little heavier denim weight--hotter in summer though)

Wranglers!

No Levi's - Very bad. Anti gun, anti hunting, anti everything. The kids went bad. They don't even support Boy Scouts I am told.

You might try a pair of LEE's. They seem to fit me pretty good also the Cabela's store brand. The only thing about the Lee's is they are a little light duty but sure are comfortable. Wranglers just don't seem to give me enough room in the thighs and calf area. Neither Wrangler or Levi's are made in the U.S. anymore, I don't know if the others are.

I can vouch for both Dickies and Duluth Trading (not cheap, but well built). Wranglers last a long while as well.

Just give up and wear suspenders attached to your belt! Get "Perrys". They have fine plastic clips that wont tear up your furniture and truck seat. Works for me!

+10!

HOWEVER, when I was a teen-ager, Levi's were made in America, cost $3.95 a pair, shrank, ran blue for two or three washes, and lasted forever. Those days are gone...

Wranglers AND take a bit of the gut off, or yer forever gonna have "dunlop" disease and need long tailed shirts and suspenders. If yer backside and legs are shrinking AND yer 20 lbs overweight (welcome to middle age) yer really carrying 30 lbs where ya don't want it. Walk and bunch or ride a bicycle to build up the legs and cut the carbs.....

Sorry, but that's the real answer.

Cinch jeans -- (the original formula - -- green tags) fit about like that. I used to wear a lot of stuff from the Gap, but made the switch to Cinch about 10 years ago. similar fit, but the fabric is much heavier (my perception --- nothing scientific). Costs about 40 bucks from most any western wear store

for my work pants I buy Kirkland jeans at Cosco 13$$ and they are not the thin type.
Also Dickies makes a double knee carpender jean for around 25$.

Although, for driving, vs. riding... as since they're "period correct", I tend to wear Levi button-fly. Still have 40 lbs to drop and I'll fit back in my 13MWZ and climb back on the cayuses.

You're telling your age. I've noticed several times in the past week that I'm the only one in the room with my shirt tucked in. I guess that saves money on fancy belt buckles.

+1 on the Wranglers. I get the loose fit because my thighs are still too big to fit into regular fit. In the Army I once tried on some Levis 501s in a store and had to buy them after I split the seams on both thighs when I sat down to tie my shoes.

+ another. I used to only wear Levi's until I found out about their BS company policies. Now they are not allowed in the house.

Another consideration is the jeans at Wally-world. Yes, they are imported. But they are cheap, and probably last as long as the others. If you are going to burn through 10-12 pairs a year, you want to be buying $10 jeans - not $20-$30 ones! Heck, that's GUN MONEY!!!

I'm a Carhartt fan. They come in a variety of colors, and all are better and tougher built than blue denim. The Carhartt canvas pants will last longer than denim jeans, balancing out the cost. You can get them in single front or double front legs. The tan ones are toughest of their colors, tho they may not be an appropriate color for your use. I'm just not a fan of blue or denim in any event.

The Carharts have the nice leg pockets. I carry my surefire E2E in the left leg pocket (and havent lost it again since, like I did regularly trying to carry it by the clip), and a clip on knife on the right, as well as pens and whatever, like a pepper pen. I bought a clip on knife, thinking it was pretty cool. As soon as I started carrying it, I kept snagging my hand getting in my pocket. My opinion quickly changed to hating clip on knives. Then I thought of the leg pocket. A perfect place!

The Carhartts are also cut a little looser than most jeans. I sew buttons on them for suspenders when I'm using them in the hills and carrying a pistol.

Tycer,

Ok, I can't restrain myself any longer. Did you put on weight since I last saw you? I didn't think you were at all big (like myself), is it stress driving you?
