'92 Disassembly
Hi.... this is my first post here.
I've got a new Italian made Chiappa 1892 that is dripping with lube/protectant from the factory (it's a nasty reddish-brown looking stuff.)
I wanted to disassemble to degrease with some Quick-scrub III so I could re-lube it properly and have a fresh start. But now I'm thinking...maybe I only need to remove the butt stock to let the Quick-scrub run out the back of the action as I spray it while holding the muzzle pointing up.
If I do decide to just remove the stock, is it as easy as simply taking out the tang screw, or is there more to it?
What are some of your thoughts on this?

Skeeziks,
Welcome to the forum.
Yes, if this manufacturer has followed conventional design, just removing the one screw will allow you to remove the stock.
I'm not familiar with Quick-scrub III so if it is similar to carb or break cleaner make sure you lightly lube all surfaces as well as the moving parts.
Pictures of new lever guns are fully encouraged and welcomed.

Re: '92 Disassembly
Hey thanks, Joe!
I figured that's all it would take.... The exploded view in the "manual" is poor, to say the least.
Qiuck-scrub is made by Shooter's Choice. It's one of the fastest evaporating de-greasers out there. I've been using it for over 15 years. It's good stuff...you just don't want it on the wood (hence, the removing of the stock.)
Haven't taken any pics yet, but when I do get around to it I'll try to post them (kinda new to attaching pics.) ~

Howdy and welcome to the forum,
Yes, just take out that one big screw there behind the hammer at the end of the upper tang. Now the stock will slide back and off. You will also want to remove the magazine plug, the mag spring and follower. I use Auto-Zone Brake parts cleaner spray to flush with. Once done and dry you will need a spray lube. This is the best way to insure that the oil gets down in all the right places. Spray it down dripping, stand it muzzle up on an old rag and let it drain overnight, wipe it down, put it back together and your done.
A word of caution, if you decide to take it down farther you should know, the lever to bolt pin isn't drifted in like the original Win. They screw in. Once you remove the plug screw you will find a slot for a screwdriver tip. I've now had a few of these sent to me that were beat up and I had to drill them out.
Next, is the screw that attaches the loading gate. The loading gate is not drilled and tapped. It has a tiny proprietary nut inside that is easily lost.

Hi Steve....
I do still have to remove that stupid plug that Italy's Ministry of Interior has imposed upon us.

But did you mean for me to spray parts cleaner and lube down the mag tube...or was that just for the action?
Also...as I stated before, I've been using Shooter's Choice Quick Scrub for years and been happy with it. Will it do just as good a job as the brake parts cleaner?
One more thing.... I was planning on using M-Pro 7 Gun Oil LPX, which comes in a dropper bottle. Should I pour it into a spray bottle, or do you recommend a different lube?

Re: '92 Disassembly
What I do is besides the action I clean the bore and the mag tube all at the same time so yes flush and oil the mag tub and spring too. I have never used that Quick scrub but I bet it's much the same as Birchwood-Casey Gun scrub, which is the same as the Auto-Zone Brake parts cleaner.Skeeziks wrote:Nate Kiowa Jones wrote:You will also want to remove the magazine plug, the mag spring and follower. Thanks Steve.... but I've never put oil in a mag tube before. Won't the oil in the mag tube get all over the ammo?Nate Kiowa Jones wrote:Skeeziks wrote:Nate Kiowa Jones wrote:What I do is besides the action I clean the bore and the mag tube all at the same time so yes flush and oil the mag tub and spring too.Skeeziks wrote:

And what kind of lube do you recommend?

Re: '92 Disassembly
Use a "dry" graphite spray lube, the carrier evaporates but leaves a lube film on the inside of the tube... use it on the spring and follower also.

Re: '92 Disassembly
Skeeziks,
On the very rare occasion I take a magazine tube apart I always scrub it, the spring, and the follower really good. Then I take a cleaning patch, put a few drops of oil on in and squeeze it around then I wipe down the spring and follower. After that I put it in a jag and run it up and down inside the mag tube just like you'd do the bore. A few drops of oil on a cleaning patch will not put a lot of oil on in, just enough to prevent rust and lube it.
That's my modis operondi. ( Those are sposed to be cop words but I can't spell 'em and neither can can my spell checker.

Re: '92 Disassembly - ? for Nate....
Hi Steve.... In your reply above you said you use a "Spray Lube" for the action.
What brand do you use? I'm having a hard time choosing one.
