A couple of years ago there was a lengthy discussion of sources of rough finished replacement stocks for Winchester 71 rifles. I have never had great luck with the search function here. can anybody help out? thanks!

+1 on tree bone carving I waited for a long time with a different outfit for my martini cadet stock and had to give up so I went with Tree Bone instead.Did not have any reason for regret.Nice people, fast service and they make a good product. Now if I can only light a fire under my gunsmith .

No experience with any, but I'd try treebone carving. Just the free sharing of information on his site tells me he's confident and willing to help.

Thanks, that's the one. Got a buttstock for a 71 from them. Dimensions around wrist of stock not spec (too much wood taken away) My stocker is going to repair it with a glued in strip of walnut.Just a precaution to the next guy.willygene wrote:precision gun works for stocks.

I think treebone is the best. George will go out of his way to help. ive bought 4 from him and all is quality wood. he cant make anything to fit the mirokus though, i called him 2 weeks ago on that. but for older winchesters and modern marlin he can be beat.big bear wrote:A couple of years ago there was a lengthy discussion of sources of rough finished replacement stocks for Winchester 71 rifles.
