Home made snap caps.

Post by cshold »

Here’s the results of my thrifty do it myself 10 min. snap cap project.
I made these for my Colt SAA 357.
I started by knocking out the primers on six empty .38 spl. cases.
Located one rubber washer same thickness as the primer pocket.
Used the largest setting on my leather hole punch, to cut the
round rubber inserts for the primer pocket. (perfect fit BTW  ).
A small dab of clear silicon sealant in each primer pocket to
secure the rubber in place.

Now I can sit in front of the tv and do a little indoor winter time practice. :D

What a great idea!

Never mind Mike, I just got caught up on the board postings.

I've been thinking of how to make snap caps for my C&B revolvers, and now I wonder if I can get a washer thick enough. Time to hit Home Depot!

Hey Griff,

Take one of the knocked out primers with you for match up.
I found the right thickness at ACE in the plumbing section. :)

You can also cut the "rubber primers" from the right size O-ring.
One O-ring will make quite a few snap caps.

I do pretty much the same thing. The thickness of my sheet of material is a little too thick - but I just use a razor blade to trim it flush with the shell base.
Politicians and diapers both require frequent changing for the EXACT same reason!

Thanks for sharing dude! This invention is an absolute MUST for you boys out there who have some nice double barrels such as the Fox's, Parkers, Ithaca, LC's etc---Dry firing these guns will damage them

The safety modification I made.
Scuffed up the case rims and then painted them with red finger nail polish.

To use these in your levergun just grind off part of the rim so the extractor won't grab it.
